2015 NFL Week 10 Picks

Here are my predictions for week ten of the 2015 NFL season.

Thursday, November 12th
Buffalo Bills (4-4) vs New York Jets (5-3)- 8:25, NFLN: Buffalo is are coming off a nice home win over the Miami Dolphins. The Jets are coming off a home win over the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in which they didn't look great and some injuries occurred during the game as well. While the Bills have gotten healthier and the Jets are losing some key players, I think Tyrod Taylor leads the way to get the Bills back over the .500 mark.
Prediction: Buffalo 27, NY Jets 23.

Sunday, November 15th
Detroit Lions (1-7) vs Green Bay Packers (6-2)- 1:00, FOX: Detroit is coming off their bye and two weeks ago, they lost badly in London against the Kansas City Chiefs. Green Bay is coming off a disappointing road loss in Charlotte against the Panthers. The Packers return to Lambeau this week and that will help them to a terrific bounce back win over a hapless Lions team.
Prediction: Green Bay 37, Detroit 20.

Dallas Cowboys (2-6) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-5)- 1:00, FOX: Dallas is coming off a brutal Sunday night overtime home loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. Tampa Bay is coming off a home loss against the New York Giants. This was a tough call but I think Jameis Winston's teammates won't be dropping footballs like they did last week and Winston leads the Bucs to a win against a depleted Cowboys team.
Prediction: Tampa Bay 23, Dallas 20.

New Orleans Saints (4-5) vs Washington Redskins (3-5)- 1:00, FOX: New Orleans is coming off a disappointing overtime home loss against the Tennessee Titans. Washington is coming off a tough road loss in Foxboro against the Patriots. The Saints defense has been awful this season, but the Redskins defense hasn't been all that bad. I really like Washington to pull out the home upset.
Prediction: Washington 30, New Orleans 27.

Carolina Panthers (8-0) vs Tennessee Titans (2-6)- 1:00, FOX: Carolina is coming off a terrific home win over the Green Bay Packers. Tennessee is coming off a nice overtime road win in the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints. This has a letdown potential for the Panthers, but I do think this will be a close game since Marcus Mariota is back for the Titans.
Prediction: Carolina 30, Tennessee 23.

Cleveland Browns (2-7) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4)- 1:00, CBS: Cleveland is coming off a Thursday night road loss in Cincinnati against the Bengals. Pittsburgh is coming off a home win over the Oakland Raiders in which Ben Rothlisberger sprained his foot. The Steelers are preparing for Landry Jones to start but wouldn't rule out the possibility of Rothlisberger playing. I don't think we will see Rothlisberger this week, but the talent around Jones should be the difference here against the Browns, no matter who starts at quarterback for them. I do think this will be a close one, though.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 20, Cleveland 17.

Chicago Bears (3-5) vs St. Louis Rams (4-4)- 1:00, CBS: Chicago is coming off a nice Monday night road win in San Diego against the Chargers. St. Louis is coming off a tough overtime road loss in Minneapolis against the Vikings. I do think this will be a closer game than people think, but the Rams pull this one out at home.
Prediction: St. Louis 24, Chicago 20.

Miami Dolphins (3-5) vs Philadelphia Eagles (4-4)- 1:00, CBS: Miami is coming off a disappointing road loss in Orchard Park against the Bills. Philadelphia is coming off a nice overtime Sunday night win in Jerry World against the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles are just the better team here as their offense will have another nice game against a mediocre Dolphins team.
Prediction: Philadelphia 33, Miami 20.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6) vs Baltimore Ravens (2-6)- 1:00, CBS: Jacksonville is coming off a tough road loss in the Meadowlands against the New York Jets. Baltimore is coming off their bye week and two weeks ago, they won at home over the San Diego Chargers. The Ravens are the better team here and Joe Flacco will take advantage of a bad Jaguar defense to lead his team to a win.
Prediction: Baltimore 30, Jacksonville 17.

Minnesota Vikings (6-2) vs Oakland Raiders (4-4)- 4:05, FOX: This is a very underrated game. Minnesota is coming off a nice overtime home win over the St. Louis Rams in which Teddy Bridgewater was concussed during the game. Oakland is coming off a tough road loss in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Bridgewater should be good to go, but I believe he'll be outplayed by Derek Carr, who will lead the Raiders to a win.
Prediction: Oakland 30, Minnesota 24.

Kansas City Chiefs (3-5) vs Denver Broncos (7-1)- 4:25, CBS: Kansas City is coming off their bye and two weeks ago they won big in London over the Detroit Lions. Denver is coming off their first loss of the season in Indianapolis against the Colts. The Chiefs are a little frisky, despite their losing record, but the Broncos are home and are the better team so expect a bounce back win here.
Prediction: Denver 30, Kansas City 20.

New England Patriots (8-0) vs New York Giants (5-4)- 4:25, CBS: There is no doubt this is the biggest and best game of the weekend and might end up being the game of the year when it's all said and done since it's a rematch of two epic Super Bowls in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI. It might be worth asking if this could be a preview of Super Bowl 50 as well since this was the matchup of the last two Super Bowls that took place in leap years and 2016 is obviously a leap year. New England is coming off a nice home win over Washington. The Giants are coming off a road win in Tampa against the Buccaneers. The Patriots have lost Dion Lewis for the season with a torn ACL and their offensive line is banged up as well. The Giants got Jason Pierre-Paul back last week and he made a nice immediate impact against the Bucs. Big Blue is the Pats nemesis and it's well documented. Since the Pats are pretty banged up in key places and the Giants are getting healthy, Bill Belichick's kryptonite's will hand his team their first loss of the season with big games from Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.
Prediction: NY Giants 27, New England 24.

Arizona Cardinals (6-2) vs Seattle Seahawks (4-4)- 8:30, NBC: This game could go a long way deciding who wins the NFC West. Both teams are coming off their bye weeks. Two weeks ago, Arizona won a Monday night game over the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle won a road game in Jerry World against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals are just the better team here and for the second time in three years, they quiet the twelfth man and win in Seattle.
Prediction: Arizona 26, Seattle 23.

Monday, November 16th
Houston Texans (3-5) vs Cincinnati Bengals (8-0)- 8:30, ESPN: Houston is coming off their bye week and two weeks ago they won at home over the Tennessee Titans and Marcus Mariota didn't play in that game. Cincinnati is coming off a Thursday night home win over the Cleveland Browns. Tr Bengals have been a top-three team in the league all season and that will continue here against the a Texans. The Bengals are my lock of the week.
Prediction: Cincinnati 33, Houston 16.

2015 MLB Free Agency Predictions

Here are my predictions on where the best players available this winter will land.

1. David Price- Chicago Cubs: All signs point to the Cubbies being the favorites to land the best pitcher available this winter. And they should be the favorites too because Price's former manager Joe Maddon is the current manager of the Cubs and no team has a brighter future in all of sports than the Cubs right now. Price would only make it brighter. Teams such as the Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, Angels, Cardinals, Dodgers, and Giants can't be ruled out. Neither cold a return to Toronto.

2. Jason Hayward- St. Louis Cardinals: This was a tough one to predict. I say the Cards keep him and sign him to a big contract this offseason since he is still pretty young and has a ton of upside. Don't forget they traded Shelby Miller for him. Teams such as the Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Tigers, White Sox, Twins, Indians, Royals, Astros, Rangers, Angels, Mariners, Nationals, Cubs, Dodgers, and Giants can't be counted out.

3. Zack Greinke- Los Angeles Dodgers: The Dodgers can't afford to let Greinke go unless they sign or trade for somebody else. Greinke apparently wants to stay in the west coast so I think he re-signs with the Dodgers. Don't rule out the Red Sox, Yankees, Angels, Rangers, Cardinals, Cubs and Giants.

4. Justin Upton- Houston Astros: Upton is another tough one to predict. The Astros may lose Colby Rasmus in free agency and Upton would be a great replacement and upgrade. This would be a nice fit. I wouldn't rule out the Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles, Tigers, White Sox, Indians, Royals, Angels, Rangers, Mariners, Mets, Cubs, and Giants.

5. Chris Davis- Boston Red Sox: This one is a bit of a wild card but I'll roll with this pick. The Red Sox traded away Mike Napoli last season and can use an upgrade at first base over Travis Shaw, who showed some flashes last season. Part of this prediction is that I believe the Sox will eventually move on from Hanley Ramirez. Davis would be a nice fit on the Sox and could use him in the outfield if need be. Other potential fits are the Astros, Rangers, Angels, Mariners, and Cardinals. A return to Baltimore can't be ruled out either.

6. Yoenis Cespedes- Chicago Cubs: Cespedes would be a really nice fit on this up and coming Cubs team. They can use him in left or center field, just like the Mets and his other teams he was on in the past. Other fits are the teams I listed for Hayward and Upton. A reunion with the Mets is possible as well.

7. Jordan Zimmerman- San Francisco Giants: The Giants need another top-flight pitcher to pair up with Madison Bumgarner and Zimmerman is the right fit. Other fits are the teams I listed for Price and Greinke as well as the Blue Jays, Tigers, and Diamondbacks.

8. Johnny Cueto- Boston Red Sox: The Red Sox need a top flight pitcher in the worst way and Cueto is the right fit for them. Other fits are the teams I listed for Price, Greinke, and Zimmerman.

9. Alex Gordon- Kansas City Royals: There's a lot of talk that the Royals can't afford to pay Gordon, but that's overblown. I believe Gordon stays with the Royals and they'll do whatever it takes to keep him. Teams I listed for Upton and Hayward can't be ruled out, either.

10. Ian Desmond- San Diego Padres: The Padres need a shortstop upgrade badly and the Pads seem like a nice fit. Teams such as the Orioles, Yankees, White Sox, Twins, and Mets can't be counted out.

11. Jeff Samardzija- Los Angeles Angels: The Angels rotation is actually quite decent, but the bet here is that they trade some of their pitchers to get a big bat. This is a nice fit for Samardzija. The Yankees are known to like Samardzija, but the Giants, Diamondbacks, Tigers, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Cardinals and Astros are just a few others who could get involved.

12. Mike Leake- San Francisco Giants: Leake was a nice fit on the Giants after they traded for him last summer. I believe they try to keep him just like they did with Jake Peavy last winter. Teams I listed for Samardzija are the likely candidates for Leake as well.

13. Wei-Yen Chen- Miami Marlins: This one is a bit of a wild card too. The Marlins could use some middle-of-the-rotation help after trading away Dan Haren and Mat Latos and Chen would be a nice fit. Teams I listed for Samardzija are the likely suitors for Chen.

14. Matt Wieters- Chicago White Sox: The White Sox can absolutely use an upgrade at catcher and Wieters would be a nice fit and an upgrade over Tyler Flowers. Teams such as the Angels, Astros, Nationals, and Braves will be in the mix too.

15. Daniel Murphy- Los Angeles Angels: The Angels are a nice fit for Murphy, who will provide an upgrade at second base over the likes of Johnny Giavotella. He can also play third base as well. The Yankees, Orioles, White Sox, Royals, Athletics, Nationals, and Padres could be in the mix as well. The Mets will likely move on as they have Dilson Herrera in place to replace him at second base.

16. Dexter Fowler- Chicago Cubs: I believe the Cubs will retain their center fielder they traded for last winter. Fowler did a nice job leading off for the Cubbies and he should be back, but if they decide to move on, the Mets, Nationals, Angels, Marlins, and White Sox are some decent matches.  Teams like the Mariners and Rangers may seek help in center field, but may be reluctant to forfeit their first-round draft pick.

17. Scott Kazmir- Houston Astros: I believe the Astros will retain Kazmir after trading for him last summer. He was a nice fit in Houston as well and he is from there too. The Orioles, perhaps seeking a more affordable southpaw to replace Wei-Yin Chen, could pursue Kazmir. The Tigers, Blue Jays, Giants, Dodgers, Padres, and Royals are other possibilities.

18. Ian Kennedy- Detroit Tigers: Detroit needs pitching after trading away David Price (even though they got some good pitchers in return from the Price and Yoenis Cespedes trades). Kennedy would be a nice fit with the Tigers in the middle of that rotation. The Angels, Giants, Astros, Blue Jays, and Orioles are potential suitors.

19. Yovani Gallardo- Detroit Tigers: Like Kennedy, I believe Gallardo would be a nice fit in this Detroit rotation. He would be likely their number two starter behind Justin Verlander. The other suitors for Gallardo are the teams I listed for Samardjiza and Kazmir.

20. Ben Zobrist- New York Yankees: The Yankees are the best fit for Zobrist. He can play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield and would give the veterans a rest because of his versatility. He remains a good fit for the Royals, while the Mets, Orioles, Padres, Astros, Nationals, Cubs and White Sox could also make sense.

2015 MLB Awards

Here are my awards for the 2015 MLB season.

American League
MVP: Josh Donaldson, Toronto Blue Jays- Donaldson's monster season is one of the key reasons why the Jays won the AL East and eventually made the ALCS. He has proven to be a franchise player for years to come.
Runner up: Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels.

Cy Young: Dallas Keuchel, Houston Astros- Keuchel had a great season last season and built off of it en route to a career year and probably some hardware as well. He was the reason why they won the Wild Card game in Yankee Stadium and why they took the eventual World Series champion Royals to a fifth game.
Runner up: David Price, Detroit Tigers/Toronto Blue Jays.

Rookie of the Year: Carlos Correa, Houston Astros- Correa had an amazing rookie season and he's arguably the leagues best shortstop already. He will be a franchise cornerstone for the Astros for years to come.
Runner up: Francisco Lindor, Cleveland Indians.

Comeback Player of the Year: Prince Fielder, Texas Rangers- Fielder had a nice bounce back season and helped the Rangers win the AL West title. I think the league forgot how good he is when he is healthy.
Runner up: Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees.

Manager of the Year: Jeff Banister, Texas Rangers- Texas had an amazing season despite most experts (including myself) picking Banister's team to finish in last place in the AL West. Banister deserves a lot of credit for getting a lot of of his players and developing the younger players on the team as well.
Runner up: AJ Hinch, Houston Astros.

National League
MVP: Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals- The Nationals may have had a dismal season, but Harper certainly didn't disappoint. He was terrific this season by putting up monster numbers and has proven to be a top-five player in all of baseball.
Runner up: Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks.

Cy Young: Zack Greinke, Los Angeles Dodgers- Greinke had a terrific season this season in a contract year and he's not even the best pitcher on his team (could be former team soon if he doesn't re-sign with the Dodgers). Greinke is amazing and he should be rewarded for his historically great season.
Runner up: Jake Arrieta, Chicago Cubs.

Rookie of the Year- Kris Bryant, Chicago Cubs- This was an easy one. Bryant had an amazing rookie season and nearly broke every Cubs rookie record in key statistics. Bryant will be a franchise cornerstone for the Cubs for years to come and could be the best player in baseball someday.
Runner up: Matt Duffy, San Francisco Giants.

Comeback Player of the Year- Matt Harvey, New York Mets- Harvey had a great season coming off of Tommy John surgery. He also helped his team reach the World Series for the first time in fifteen years as well.
Runner up: Joey Votto, Cincinnati Reds.
