Here is my fourteenth edition of my 2019 NFL Mock Draft.
1. Arizona Cardinals- Kyler Murray, Quarterback, Oklahoma: A month ago, I thought that the Murray to the Cardinals talk was fake news. After Steve Keim came out and said "Josh Rosen is our quarterback...... for now" convinced me that Murray is a near lock to go to Arizona and Josh Rosen is trade bait. There has been some reports that the Cards may pass on Murray and keep Rosen but I think it's a smokescreen.
2. San Francisco 49ers- Nick Bosa, Defensive End, Ohio State: This is the dream scenario for the Niners. Getting the best player in the draft is always a win for whomever drafts the player. Bosa would be an upgrade over any of the pass rushers currently on the Niners roster and he would have an immediate impact like Myles Garrett did a few years back with the Browns.
3. New York Jets- Josh Allen, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Kentucky: Allen is the one player that was a huge riser from the summer until now. The Jets have a need for immediate impact talent (and versatility) on the defensive side of the ball and Allen would be a great fit. A trade down is not out of the question, either because the Jets still have other needs to address.
4. Oakland Raiders- Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams is someone that the Silver And Black will gladly take and Jon Gruden loves players like Williams. He's physical and he can flat out tackle. I see a poor mans Aaron Donald here. It would be a huge win for Gruden and Mike Maycock if Arizona takes Murray and/or if someone trades up to 2 or 3 to take Dwayne Haskins or someone else.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ed Oliver, Defensive Tackle, Houston: Oliver was once projected a consensus top-five pick and he saw his stock go down. Now, it's possible he does go in the top five. The Bucs could use someone on the interior to go with Gerald McCoy on the defensive line and Oliver is a stud.
6. New York Giants- Dwayne Haskins, Quarterback, Ohio State: The Giants might be setting a smokescreen after all. Rumors are that the Giants love Haskins and there plan is to take him at six if he's available. He's the perfect quarterback to replace Eli Manning long term as he relly has shown a lot of things the Giants would like in a franchise quarterback.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars- TJ Hockenson, Tight End, Iowa: Hockenson's stock has risen to the point he could go this high. The comparisons to Rob Gronkowski is what has a lot of teams excited about his potential. The Jaguars need more weapons around Nick Foles and Hockenson would be a starter for them right away.
8. Detroit Lions- Montez Sweat, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Mississippi State: Yes, the team signed Tre Flowers in free agency, but it wouldn't be such a bad idea to double down on pass rush. Sweat is somebody that is very talented, but has some bust potential. His pre-existing heart condition is what could make him slip, but his speed and ability to rush the passer will appeal teams.
9. Buffalo Bills- Jawaan Taylor, Offensive Tackle, Florida: Taylor is someone that has risen fast after a strong combine performance. He is someone that excels in the run game and that would help LeSean McCoy and (Josh Allen for that matter) in the run game. Allen is someone who played behind a bad offensive line a year ago and adding someone like Taylor would help.
10. Denver Broncos- Devin White, Inside Linebacker, LSU: John Elway is definitely doing backflips as White falls to him at ten. He'll get some heat for passing on a quarterback again, but taking a player of White's caliber is a win as he gets another blue chipper on defense. He's a tackling machine and will make a few teams look silly for passing on him.
11. Cincinnati Bengals- Drew Lock, Quarterback, Missouri: This could be all a smokescreen, but a lot of people are speculating that the Bengals will look at what their rival Ravens did with Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson a year ago and try that with Andy Dalton and a possible successor. Lock is somebody that has a strong arm and could end up being the guy that new coach Zac Taylor falls for.
12. Green Bay Packers- Noah Fant, Tight End, Iowa: Hockenson's teammate goes five spots after him as the Packers reach for their tight end of the future. I was initially high on Fant, but Hockenson has supplanted him as the top tight end in the draft. I still do believe Fant could be a solid tight end in the league, but the Packers are thin on weapons around Aaron Rodgers so I can see them reaching here.
13. Miami Dolphins- Christian Wilkins, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: The Dolphins are a team that could be all in on Tank For Tua after it decided to trade Ryan Tannehill away and sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to a 2-year contract. An offensive lineman with this pick is not a bad idea either, but Wilkins can come in and start right away on a defensive line that needs new blood.
14. Atlanta Falcons- Brian Burns, Defensive End, Florida State: The Falcons are a team that wants some pass rush help as they settle on Burns. He's somebody that is very athletic and has a ton of speed and could replace Vic Beasley long term if he were to bolt in free agency next offseason.
15. Washington Redskins- Daniel Jones, Quarterback, Duke: With Alex Smith's future uncertain, the Skins take a chance with a young quarterback in Jones. He has drawn comparisons to Eli Manning and also has participated in the Manning Passing Academy. His stock has risen with a good showing in the Senior Bowl and the combine it sure seems like he's a sure fire first round pick.
16. Carolina Panthers- Jonah Williams, Offensive Tackle, Alabama: The Panthers land a mega steal here with Williams, who is the best lineman in the draft. Williams will be starting right away in this scenario and Cam Newton needs protection badly because he's a quarterback that is an injury risk as of right now.
17. New York Giants (from Cleveland Browns)- Rashan Gary, Defensive End, Michigan: Addressing the pass rush in this draft is arguably just as important as finding the next franchise quarterback for the Giants. Gary is someone who did not live upto lofty expectations in college, but still was a solid contributor for Jim Harbaugh. He has the tools to be a solid pro and if he lives upto hype, Big Blue could end up with a steal.
18. Minnesota Vikings- Cody Ford, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma: The Vikings are a team that's close to being a contender and they must address their biggest weakness- their offensive line. Ford is someone that is coming off a strong final season in college and would be a welcomed addition to a Vikings offensive line, that needs youth and reinforcements.
19. Tennessee Titans- Clelin Ferrell, Defensive End, Clemson: The second of two Clemson players get taken here with Ferrell. The Titans have options with this pick as they decide to go with Ferrell to bolster the pass rush to play him alongside Jurell Casey.
20. Pittsburgh Steelers- Devin Bush, Inside Linebacker, Michigan: Bush is someone who's stock is rising of late who is a great athlete. The Steelers badly need a receiver to replace Antonio Brown, but there will be plenty of them available in the later rounds. Grabbing Bush here could be a steal as he'd come in and be a starter for them.
21. Seattle Seahawks- Dexter Lawrence, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: Here is the third of the three Clemson players that are expected to go in the first round and Lawrence could wind up the best one of the trio. He reminds me of Fletcher Cox and Pete Carroll and the Seahawks would love his presence and he would start for them.
22. Baltimore Ravens- DK Metclaf, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: Metclaf is someone who could wind up a steal from this spot. This would be a nice weapon for Lamar Jackson, who needs a downfield threat guy to help his development.
23. Houston Texans- Dalton Risner, Offensive Tackle, Kansas State: The Texans had the worst offensive line in the sport a year ago and they need all the reinforcements that they can use. Risner is someone that can come in and start immediately for a unit that allowed a ton of sacks a season ago.
24. Oakland Raiders (from Chicago Bears)- Greedy Williams, Cornerback, LSU: The Raiders land a stud here with Williams as he drops all the way to 24. He's fast and he has great length and he's someone Jon Gruden would like to pair next to Gareon Conley in the secondary.
25. Philadelphia Eagles- Jeffery Simmons, Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State: Simmons stock has dropped after he tore his ACL, so the Eagles could get a steal here if he lives up to his potential. He would be a solid fit next to Fletcher Cox on that defensive line.
26. Indianapolis Colts- Marquise Brown, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma: Brown is somebody that is gaining stream as we are in draft week. The Colts reach for a receiver to bolster it's depth outside of T.Y. Hilton and the overpaid Devin Funchess rather than adding a pass rusher.
27. Oakland Raiders (from Dallas Cowboys)- Josh Jacobs, Running Back, Alabama: The Raiders use their third first rounder for a position of need with Marshawn Lynch and Doug Martin not being long term solutions. Jacobs is the best running back in the draft and I can see Maycock and Gruden taking him here.
28. Los Angeles Chargers- Jerry Tillery, Defensive Tackle, Notre Dame: The Chargers defensive front was exposed in their playoff defeat against the Patriots and bolstering the interior would be wise. Tillery is someone who's stock is rising and is worth the selection here.
29. Kansas City Chiefs- DeAndre Baker, Cornerback, Georgia: Baker is one of the more underrated corners in draft. The Chiefs need secondary help more than any of the Super Bowl contenders and Baker can come in and start immediately.
30. Green Bay Packers (from New Orleans Saints)- Johnathan Abram, Safety, Mississippi State: Abram is one of the more solid safeties in the draft as the Packers take someone to pair in the secondary with new addition Adrian Amos. He's someone that's a great playmaker and it would be wise for them to go defense instead of offense assuming they go offense at 12.
31. Los Angeles Rams- Garrett Bradbury, Center, North Carolina State: Bradbury is someone who's stock is rising rapidly and is the best center in this draft. The Rams lost John Sullivan in free agency and Bradbury can come in and possibly start right away.
32. New England Patriots- AJ Brown, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: Brown is one of the more underrated wideouts in the draft as he was overshadowed in college by DK Metclaf. The Patriots are a team that needs more youth in terms of skill position and Brown will put up numbers with Tom Brady throwing to him.
