Here is the seventh edition of my 2020 NFL Mock Draft.
1. Cincinnati Bengals- Joe Burrow, Quarterback, LSU: After what was a breakout season which led to a Heisman Trophy, Burrow emerged as the favorite to go first overall in this upcoming draft. The Bengals want to move on from Andy Dalton and start fresh here with Burrow, who second year coach Zac Taylor could help develop into the franchise quarterback the team is looking for.
2. Washington Redskins- Chase Young, Defensive End, Ohio State: Young is the best player in this draft and he falls one spot due to the Bengals quarterback need. The Redskins need a lot of young talent on both ends of the ball and Young would have an immediate impact in the league chasing the likes of Dak Prescott, Carson Wentz, and Daniel Jones twice a season.
3. Detroit Lions- Jeff Okudah, Cornerback, Ohio State: This is an interesting spot because this is a spot where someone could trade up for a quarterback and the Lions could get a nice haul back. The Lions are a team that's in dire need of secondary help after the trading of Darius Slay and Okudah is the best defensive back in the draft, although you can argue they should take Derrick Brown of Auburn due to their need on the interior of their defensive line.
4. New York Giants- Isaiah Simmons, Linebacker/Defensive Back, Clemson: Word is out that the Giants love Simmons and what we learned from the past two drafts that the Giants are not good at pulling off smoke screens, sans rumors they will take a tackle to protect Daniel Jones. Smoke screen or not, this is a logical pick for Big Blue, who need somebody like Simmons on their defense, who can do pretty much everything on defense.
5. Miami Dolphins- Justin Herbert, Quarterback, Oregon: There's always a saying "when there's smoke, there's fire". That feels like the case here as the Dolphins pass on Tua Tagovailoa for Herbert due to the health concerns of Tua, who they loved a year ago. Herbert could have declared last season but stayed at school one more season to try to improve his stock, but I feel that he would have been a first round pick last season too.
6. Los Angeles Chargers- Tua Tagovailoa, Quarterback, Alabama: The Chargers take their chances and select Tagovailoa after the Dolphins select Herbert. Tua was the consensus number one overall pick and prospect in this draft before his hip fracture in November and if he proves to stay healthy and is the same guy he was before the injuries, the Chargers land themselves a franchise guy.
7. Carolina Panthers- Derrick Brown, Defensive Tackle, Auburn: The Panthers once had a great defense, but now it looks like a unit that needs reinforcements. Brown is somebody who's rare for his size, but always was a steady player in college and would be a nice building block in Matt Rhule's first draft.
8. Arizona Cardinals- Tristan Wirfs, Offensive Tackle, Iowa: With the Cardinals acquiring DeAndre Hopkins, they turn their focus on the offensive line, where they select Wirfs. He's somebody who could conceivably go as high as fourth due to his stock rising and he could play right away helping Kyler Murray stay upright.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars- Jedric Wills, Offensive Tackle, Alabama: There are options here for the Jaguars with this selection whether it's improving the offensive or defensive line, the secondary, a receiver, or perhaps a quarterback. Wills is somebody that could go as high as fourth to the Giants due to his blocking ability and would help keep whomever the Jags quarterback is upright.
10. Cleveland Browns- Mekhi Becton, Offensive Tackle, Louisville: The Browns have a need at the opposite tackle position of Jack Conklin and they snag Becton here. Becton is somebody that has tremendous upside, but has some technique flaws which may have some teams weary of him.
11. New York Jets- Henry Ruggs III, Wide Receiver, Alabama: Rugg's stock has absolutely risen of late to the point he could be the first receiver off the board in a draft that's loaded with wideouts and factor in rumors that the Jets love him. Ruggs is exactly the type of player Sam Darnold needs, who can run a solid route and is fast who is very clean.
12. Las Vegas Raiders- Jerry Jeudy, Wide Receiver, Alabama: Jon Gruden is doing back flips as Jeudy falls into his lap. He is a fantastic route runner and many folks have drawn comparisons to Calvin Johnson due to his tremendous upside. He'd certainly turn into Derek Carr's top option.
13. San Francisco 49ers (from Indianapolis Colts)- CeeDee Lamb, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma: With Emmanuel Sanders departing in free agency, the Niners suddenly have a need at wide receiver. Lamb is somebody with high upside that has great hands, body control, and is a solid route runner, which will help Jimmy Garappolo.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Andrew Thomas, Offensive Tackle, Georgia: Thomas was someone I had going as high as fourth, but his stock has dropped a bit possibly due to a flaw he has of incorrect footwork. This would be a win for Tom Brady as the Bucs get him some much needed protection.
15. Denver Broncos- CJ Henderson, Cornerback, Florida: There is a lot of buzz that Henderson could go in the top ten, maybe as high as ninth to the Jacksonville. The Broncos snag the talented corner here to replace the departed Chris Harris Jr and Henderson could start for them right away.
16. Atlanta Falcons- Javon Kinlaw, Defensive Lineman, South Carolina: With Henderson off the board, the Falcons snag Kinlaw, who could be a steal here at this position. Kinlaw is somebody that is super versatile and would help Takkarist McKinney, Gardy Jarrett, and new addition Dante Fowler Jr on that defensive line.
17. Dallas Cowboys- Kristian Fulton, Cornerback, LSU: The Cowboys have options here as they must replace departed free agents Byron Jones and Robert Quinn. Here I have them replacing Jones with Fulton, who has great size, athleticsm, and is very clean with the way he plays.
18. Miami Dolphins (from Pittsburgh Steelers)- K'Lavon Chaisson, Defensive End, LSU: Chaisson falls here to the Dolphins as this would be a solid selection here. Chaisson is someone who is raw, but was a sack machine in college.
19. Las Vegas Raiders (from Chicago Bears)- Jeff Gladney, Cornerback, TCU: Gladney is a super fast riser as we approach the draft in a week as the Raiders surprise people and snag Gladney here. I feel this pick would be a major reach, but he is someone that has the tools to have success in the league.
20. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Los Angeles Rams)- Grant Delpit, Safety, LSU: The Jaguars with their second first rounder improve their secondary by selecting the talented safety in Delpit. Delpit is someone that is arguably the most talented safety in this draft class and would be a solid building block for the Jags going forward.
21. Philadelphia Eagles- Justin Jefferson, Wide Receiver, LSU: The two biggest needs for the Eagles this offseason were cornerback and wide receiver. With Darius Slay coming in to fill the need at corner, they look to receiver and take the former LSU standout, who showed off his ability to make big plays throughout the season.
22. Minnesota Vikings (from Buffalo Bills)- Noah Igbinoghene, Cornerback, Auburn: Igbinoghene is someone else that is a fast riser as the draft approaches. I also feel that this would be a reach of a selection although Igbinoghene has great flexibility and movement skills.
23. New England Patriots- Jordan Love, Quarterback, Utah State: With Tom Brady off to the Buccaneers, the current quarterbacks on the Pats roster are Jarred Stidham and Brian Hoyer. Now is the time to look to the future and Love is someone that is very raw and has high upside.
24. New Orleans Saints- Brandon Aiyuk, Wide Receiver, Arizona State: The Saints are another team that has options with their selection. Aiyuk is a receiver that is gaining a ton of traction of late and he would be a nice piece in that offense for Drew Brees to throw passes to along with Michael Thomas and free agent add Emmanuel Sanders.
25. Minnesota Vikings- AJ Epenesa, Defensive End, Iowa: The Vikings have a ton of options with their two first round picks and here I have them replacing free agent Everson Griffin with Epenesa. Epenesa is someone that had good moments in college and due to his great length and athleticism and add the fact he is versatile too.
26. Miami Dolphins (from Houston Texans)- DeAndre Swift, Running Back, Georgia: The Dolphins have some options with this selection and here I have them taking the talented back. Swift is someone that will come in and be an upgrade over what they currently have and assuming they do address their offensive line with other selections, Swift could really help this offense with his speed and catching ability out of the backfield.
27. Seattle Seahawks- Yetur Gross-Matos, Defensive End, Penn State: Gross-Matos's stock has dropped after being projected to be in the top 15. The Seahawks have a pass rush need assuming they don't bring back Jadeveon Clowney and Gross-Matos would help the cause with his good length and speed.
28. Baltimore Ravens- Patrick Queen, Linebacker, LSU: Queen is one of the rapid risers of late in many different peoples mock drafts. The Ravens biggest need is at the linebacker position and Queen will certainly help the cause with his ability to play three downs as well as his speed, although he is undersized.
29. Tennessee Titans- Erza Cleveland, Offensive Tackle, Boise State: Cleveland is someone that is a fast riser of late as the draft gets closer. The Titans have a need at tackle as Jack Conklin departed in free agency and Cleveland is someone that is built like a lineman that could succeed in the league.
30. Green Bay Packers- Jalen Reagor, Wide Receiver, TCU: The Packers have their choice of talented receivers to choose from assuming this is the direction they go. Reagor is somebody that can come in and put up numbers with Aaron Rodgers throwing him passes.
31. San Francisco 49ers- Ross Blacklock, Defensive Tackle, TCU: With their second first rounder, I have the Niners replacing DeForrest Buckner with the fast rising interior defensive lineman. Blacklock is someone that can come in and have an impact right away.
32. Kansas City Chiefs- Trevon Diggs, Cornerback, Alabama: Diggs for one reason or another, stock is dropping. I feel that he can be an impact corner for the reigning champions due to his physicality and imposing length.
