Here are my NBA midseason awards for the 2015-16 season.
MVP: Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors: Come on. Was there really another choice? He leads the league in scoring, he is heading for a 50-40-90 season, and oh yeah, his team is an incredible 45-4.
Runner up: Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs
Defensive Player of the Year: Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs: The defending Defensive Player of the Year is the pick here. Leonard has emerged as arguably the best two-way player, if not all-around player in the league. It's always fun to see Leonard guard the leagues best offensive players.
Runner up: Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors
Rookie of the Year: Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves: This rookie class has been incredible and Towns is the most polished, although I think Kristaps Porzingis will be the best player from this rookie class down the road. Towns has a very bright future in this league and he's really good on both ends.
Runner up: Kristaps Porzingis, New York Knicks
Most Improved Player: CJ McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers: McCollum has been incredible this season and he and teammate Damian Lillard have established themselves as one of the leagues best backcourts. His points per game average is way up from a year and ago and his improvement is a big reason why Portland is still in the playoff hunt in the Western Conference.
Runner up: Andre Drummond, Detroit Pistons
Sixth Man of the Year: Will Barton, Denver Nuggets: It's rare to see someone on a team that's double digits sub .500 to win this award, but here we are. Barton leads his team is scoring and rebounding this season and is fun to watch on a subpar Nuggets team. It will be interesting to see how he does in the Dunk Contest, which he was nominated for.
Runner up: Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs
Coach of the Year: Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs: You can make a case for a few coaches here, so since there's no easy answer I'll roll with arguably the best coach in NBA history. The team added LaMarcus Aldridge in the offseason and some people thought it would take time for the team to get going, but nope, here are the Spurs at 41-8.
Runner up: Rick Carlisle, Dallas Mavericks
Executive of the Year: RC Buford, San Antonio Spurs: As I mentioned with Pop, the team added LaMarcus Aldridge and are sitting pretty at 41-8. That's not all Buford deserves credit for. Re-signing Danny Green (despite a subpar season) and adding other pieces such as David West have also certainly helped the teams chances of winning the title.
Runner up: Bob Myers, Golden State Warriors
