2016-17 College Football Playoff Semifinals: Picks

Here are my picks for the 2016-17 College Football Playoff Semifinals.

December 31st, 2016
Chick Fil-A Peach Bowl: (1) Alabama Crimson Tide (12-0) vs (4) Washington Huskies (11-1)- 3:00, ESPN: Alabama went unbeaten in the regular season, including winning the SEC Championship for the third straight season. Washington had a great season and they won the Pac-12 Championship to find their way here. Jalen Hurts and Jake Browning will put up their numbers, but the difference here is the Tide's defensive line, which features the possible number one overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft Jonathan Allen. The Tide will Roll to the National Championship game for the second straight season.
Prediction: Alabama 37, Washington 23.

PlayStation Fiesta Bowl: (2) Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1) vs (3) Clemson Tigers (11-1)- 7:00, ESPN: Ohio State did not win the Big-10, but they did deserve to be here due to the fact that the eye test told you that the Buckeyes were just a better team than the Big-10 Champion Penn State Nittany Lions, who deserved their Rose Bowl bid. Clemson won the ACC for the second straight season and it wasn't easy for them this season, but they are here in the Playoff again. JT Barrett and DeShaun Watson is such a fun quarterback matchup and they are arguably the best two quarterbacks in the country, with all due respect to the deserving Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Something tells me Watson and the Tigers will be motivated and they'll get a rematch with the Tide in the National Championship.
Prediction: Clemson 38, Ohio State 34.

2016 NFL Week 17 Picks

Here are my picks for week seventeen of the 2016 NFL season.

Sunday, January 1st
Baltimore Ravens (8-7) vs Cincinnati Bengals (5-9-1)- 1:00, CBS: Here's a meaningless division game. Baltimore is coming off a tough Christmas Day divisional road loss in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Cincinnati is coming off a heartbreaking Christmas Eve night road loss in Houston against the Texans. Give me Andy Dalton and the Bengals to take this one because something tells me the Ravens will have a hangover from last week.
Prediction: Cincinnati 20, Baltimore 17.

Houston Texans (9-6) vs Tennessee Titans (8-7)- 1:00, CBS: Houston is coming off a good Christmas Eve night home win over the Cincinnati Bengals in which they clinched the AFC South thanks to that plus Tennessee losing to the lowly Jaguars last week in Jacksonville. If Marcus Mariota didn't break his fibula last week, I would take the Titans here. Since Matt Cassel is under center for the Titans, give me Tom Savage and the Texans here on the road.
Prediction: Houston 19, Jacksonville 16.

Buffalo Bills (7-8) vs New York Jets (4-11)- 1:00, CBS: Buffalo is coming off a heartbreaking overtime divisional home loss against the Miami Dolphins, which led to the firing of Rex Ryan. The Jets are coming off a disastrous divisional road loss in Foxboro against the Patriots. I would have loved it if Rex survived another week so his final game before the firing would be a loss against his former team, but nope. I'm going to go with the Jets here actually despite what I was hoping for in terms of a funny possible story but it's mainly because EJ Manuel is starting over Tyrod Taylor and Manuel isn't any better than Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Prediction: NY Jets 20, Buffalo 16.

New England Patriots (13-2) vs Miami Dolphins (10-5)- 1:00, CBS: New England is coming off a blowout divisional home win over the New York Jets. Miami is coming off a great overtime divisional road win in Orchard Park against the Bills. The Pats need this game to clinch home field advantage, but the Dolphins can use it too so they can move up to the 5-seed in the AFC playoff picture. Give me Tom Brady to continue a case for MVP and win a close road game.
Prediction: New England 24, Miami 20.

Cleveland Browns (1-14) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (10-5)- 1:00, CBS: Cleveland is coming off their first win of the season at home against the San Diego Chargers. Pittsburgh is coming off a huge divisional Christmas Day home win over the Baltimore Ravens to win the AFC North. The Browns had their one shining moment last week, so expect a hangover this week and because of that and the fact the Steelers probably won't rest their starters, the Steelers are my lock of the week.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 30, Cleveland 13.

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-12) vs Indianapolis Colts (7-8)- 1:00, CBS: Jacksonville is coming off a nice divisional home win over the Tennessee Titans to knock them out of playoff contention and for interim head coach Doug Marrone. Indianapolis is coming off a tough road loss in Oakland against the Raiders. I see a bit of a letdown for the Jags here and a big game from Andrew Luck.
Prediction: Indianapolis 33, Jacksonville 20.

Dallas Cowboys (13-2) vs Philadelphia Eagles (6-9)- 1:00, FOX: Dallas is coming off a Monday Night home win over the Detroit Lions. Philadelphia is coming off a nice Thursday night divisional home win over the New York Giants. The Cowboys could rest some starters here and I see the Eagles winning again here.
Prediction: Philadelphia 27, Dallas 20.

Chicago Bears (3-12) vs Minnesota Vikings (7-8)- 1:00, FOX: Chicago is coming off a bad home loss against the Washington Redskins. Minnesota is coming off a bad divisional road loss at Lambeau against the Packers which eliminated them from playoff contention. This was actually a tough game to pick but I say the Vikes defense forces Matt Barkley into turnovers and leads the way to a win.
Prediction: Minnesota 16, Chicago 13.

Carolina Panthers (6-9) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-7)- 1:00, FOX: Carolina is coming off a bad divisional home loss against the Atlanta Falcons. Tampa Bay is coming off a disappointing road loss in New Orleans against the Saints. The Bucs need a ton to go right to make the playoffs including a win here, which I'm not predicting. Cam Newton will have a chip on his shoulder and lead his team to a road win to close out the season.
Prediction: Carolina 27, Tampa Bay 23.

Kansas City Chiefs (11-4) vs San Diego Chargers (5-10)- 4:25, CBS: Kansas City is coming off a terrific Christmas night divisional home win against the Denver Broncos. San Diego is coming off a heartbreaking road loss in Cleveland against the hapless Browns. The Chargers have hung around in their games all season, but found ways to lose them. I see that happening here as the Chiefs can win the AFC West and earn a bye with a win and a Raiders loss.
Prediction: Kansas City 26, San Diego 24.

Oakland Raiders (12-3) vs Denver Broncos (8-7)- 4:25, CBS: Oakland is coming off a home win over the Indianapolis Colts, which came at a cost as Derek Carr broke his fibula and now is out for the season. Denver is coming off a disastrous Christmas night divisional road loss in Kansas City against the Chiefs. Matt McGloin is not the answer and I don't see them making a playoff run or winning this game for that matter.
Prediction: Denver 20, Oakland 16.

New York Giants (10-5) vs Washington Redskins (8-6-1)- 4:25, FOX: The Giants are coming off a tough Thursday night divisional road loss in Philadelphia against the Eagles, but the did clinch a playoff berth thanks to the Saints beating the Bucs on Christmas Eve. Washington is coming off a huge road win in Chicago against the Bears to keep their season alive. The Redskins need this game to make the playoffs and they'll win this one and as long as they win and the game that decided the NFC North isn't a tie, they'll make it.
Prediction: Washington 30, NY Giants 17.

New Orleans Saints (7-8) vs Atlanta Falcons (10-5)- 4:25, FOX: New Orleans is coming off a divisional home win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Atlanta is coming off a huge road win in Charlotte against the Panthers in which they clinched the NFC South since the Bucs lost as well. Expect this to be a close game since this could very well be Sean Payton's final game as Saints coach and the Falcons need this game for a bye. Give me Matt Ryan, who could very well be the league MVP, to lead the way to the Falcons getting that bye.
Prediction: Atlanta 34, New Orleans 30.

Seattle Seahawks (9-5-1) vs San Francisco 49ers (2-13)- 4:25, FOX: Seattle is coming off a tough divisional home loss against the Arizona Cardinals and even more costly is that they lost Tyler Lockett for the season due to a broken fibula. San Francisco is coming off a divisional road win in Los Angeles against the Rams. Don't be surprised if the Niners and Colin Kaepernick give the shorthanded Seahawks a game here.
Prediction: Seattle 23, San Francisco 20.

Arizona Cardinals (6-8-1) vs Los Angeles Rams (4-11)- 4:25, FOX: Arizona is coming off a nice divisional road win in Seattle against the Seahawks. Los Angeles is coming off a divisional home loss against the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams have been a hot mess over the last two months, so give me the Cardinals to close out a disappointing season on a high-ish note with a second straight divisional road win.
Prediction: Arizona 30, Los Angeles 16.

Green Bay Packers (9-6) vs Detroit Lions (9-6)- 8:30, NBC: Game 256 is a good one in which in all likelihood will be win or go home barring a Redskins loss or this game ending in a tie. Green Bay is coming off a big divisional home win over the Minnesota Vikings. Detroit is coming off a bad Monday night home loss in Dallas against the Cowboys. The Packers are hot and Aaron Rodgers is making an MVP case and that will only grow larger with a big time road win to win the NFC North, which they'll get here and will host the Giants in the Wild Card round.
Prediction: Green Bay 30, Detroit 24.

2016 NFL Week 16 Picks

Here are my picks for week sixteen of the 2016 NFL Season.

Thursday, December 22nd
New York Giants (10-4) vs Philadelphia Eagles (5-9)- 8:25, NBC/NFLN: This should be a fun Thursday night divisional battle despite the record disparity. The Giants are coming off a huge home win over the Detroit Lions. Philadelphia is coming off a tough road loss in Baltimore against the Ravens. The Giants clinch a playoff berth with a win here and I believe they will clinch with a win here against a team looking to play spoiler.
Prediction: NY Giants 23, Philadelphia 16.

Saturday, December 24th
Miami Dolphins (9-5) vs Buffalo Bills (7-7)- 1:00, CBS: Miami is coming off a big Saturday night road win in East Rutherford against the Jets to keep their playoff hopes alive. Buffalo is coming off a home win over the winless Cleveland Browns. Something tells me that Matt Moore's performance against the Jets was more about the Jets quitting than him actually playing that well. Give me the Bills to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Prediction: Buffalo 24, Miami 20.

New York Jets (4-10) vs New England Patriots (12-2)- 1:00, CBS: The Jets are coming off a disastrous Saturday night home loss against the Ryan Tannehill-less Miami Dolphins. New England is coming off a great road win in Denver against the Broncos. The Pats are playing well on both ends of the ball and because of that and the fact the Jets are one of the three worst teams in football, they are my lock of the week.
Prediction: New England 37, NY Jets 13.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-6) vs New Orleans Saints (6-8)- 1:00, FOX: Tampa Bay is coming off a tough Sunday night road loss in Arlington against the Cowboys. New Orleans is coming off a nice road win in Glendale against the Cardinals. The Bucs need this game to keep their playoff hopes alive and they will get it done against an inconsistent Saints team.
Prediction: Tampa Bay 30, New Orleans 23.

Tennessee Titans (8-6) vs Jacksonville Jaguars (2-12)- 1:00, CBS: Tennessee is coming off a huge road win in Kansas City against the Chiefs to keep their playoff hopes alive. Jacksonville is coming off a bad road loss in Houston against the Texans, which led to the firing of Gus Bradley. Doug Marrone is the interim for the Jags and I believe they will play for him, but ultimately will come up short against a Titans team looking to make the playoffs.
Prediction: Tennessee 23, Jacksonville 20.

Minnesota Vikings (7-7) vs Green Bay Packers (8-6)- 1:00, FOX: Minnesota is coming off a disastrous home loss against the Indianapolis Colts. Green Bay is coming off a divisional road win in Chicago against the Bears. The Packers have been rolling and they should win big here against a Vikings team that just isn't that good.
Prediction: Green Bay 27, Minnesota 16.

San Diego Chargers (5-9) vs Cleveland Browns (0-14)- 1:00, CBS: San Diego is coming off a tough divisional home loss against the Oakland Raiders. Cleveland is coming off a bad road loss in Orchard Park against the Bills. You know what? The Chargers have been so inconsistent this season and found ways to lose all season. Give me the Browns to win here and avoid 0-16. If they lose here, than they'll likely be winless.
Prediction: Cleveland 26, San Diego 24.

Washington Redskins (7-6-1) vs Chicago Bears (3-11)- 1:00, FOX: Washington is coming off a very disappointing home loss against the Carolina Panthers. Chicago is coming off a tough divisional home loss against the Green Bay Packers. The Redskins desperately need this one, but don't sleep on the Bears, who have become somewhat frisky of late.
Prediction: Washington 26, Chicago 20.

Atlanta Falcons (9-5) vs Carolina Panthers (6-8)- 1:00, FOX: Atlanta is coming off a big home win over the hapless San Francisco 49ers. Carolina is coming off a nice Monday night road win in Landover against the Redskins. This screams "trap" for the Falcons and the Panthers seem to embrace the spoiler role as shown Monday night. Give me the upset here.
Prediction: Carolina 26, Atlanta 24.

Indianapolis Colts (7-7) vs Oakland Raiders (11-3)- 4:05, CBS: This is a sneaky good game. Indianapolis is coming off a big road win in Minneapolis against the Vikings. The Colts have been up and down all season and the Raiders need a win to clinch a first round bye and I believe they'll get it here in a high scoring affair.
Prediction: Oakland 34, Indianapolis 30.

Arizona Cardinals (5-8-1) vs Seattle Seahawks (9-4-1)- 4:25, FOX: Arizona is coming off a disappointing home loss against the New Orleans Saints. Seattle is coming off a Thursday night divisional home win over the Los Angeles Rams. The Cards have been disappointing this season and don't be surprised if they give the Seahawks a game here.
Prediction: Seattle 23, Arizona 17.

San Francisco 49ers (1-13) vs Los Angeles Rams (4-10)- 4:25, FOX: San Francisco is coming off a disastrous road loss in Atlanta against the Falcons. Los Angeles is coming off a bad Thursday night divisional road loss in Seattle against the Seahawks. This is an awful game, but give me the Rams in a close one at home.
Prediction: Los Angeles 16, San Francisco 13.

Cincinnati Bengals (5-8-1) vs Houston Texans (8-6)- 8:25, NFLN: Cincinnati is coming off a divisional home loss against at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Houston is coming off a comeback divisional home win against the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars in which the Texans benched Brock Osweiler for Tom Savage. I don't think Savage is the answer, so I'm going to hold my nose and pick Andy Dalton to win a primetime game. Ugh I hope I don't regret this one.
Prediction: Cincinnati 23, Houston 19.

Sunday, December 25th
Baltimore Ravens (8-6) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5)- 4:25, NFLN: This is a big time game for Christmas Day. The Ravens are coming off a big home win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburgh is coming off a come from behind road win in Cincinnati against the Bengals. This game determines the AFC North division and the Steelers are the better team here as Big Ben will lead the way.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 20, Baltimore 17.

Denver Broncos (8-6) vs Kansas City Chiefs (9-5)- 8:30, NBC: Here's another big divisional game for Christmas Day. Denver is coming off an awful home loss against the Patriots. Kansas City is coming off a bad home loss against the Tennessee Titans. The winner of this team should make the playoffs and that will be the Chiefs, who's defense will shut down an inconsistent Broncos offense.
Prediction: Kansas City 17, Denver 13.

Monday, December 26th
Detroit Lions (9-5) vs Dallas Cowboys (12-2)- 8:30, ESPN: Detroit is coming off a tough road loss in East Rutherford against the Giants. Dallas is coming off a good Sunday night home win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This was a tough call, but give me the Cowboys at home.
Prediction: Dallas 27, Detroit 20.

2016 NFL Week 15 Picks

Here are my picks for week fifteen of the 2016 NFL season.

Thursday, December 15th
Los Angeles Rams (4-9) vs Seattle Seahawks (8-4-1)- 8:25, NBC/NFLN: Los Angeles is coming off a disastrous home loss against the Atlanta Falcons, which led to the firing of Jeff Fisher. Seattle is coming off a disastrous road loss in Lambeau against the Packers in which Russell Wilson threw five interceptions in. The Rams have played well against the Seahawks the past few times, but I don't see it here. Russell Wilson will bounce back as well as the Hawks D.
Prediction: Seattle 30, Los Angeles 13.

Saturday, December 17th
Miami Dolphins (8-5) vs New York Jets (4-9)- 8:25, NFLN: Miami is coming off a nice overtime home win over the Arizona Cardinals, although they lost Ryan Tannehill for the season with a ACL/MCL sprain. The Jets are coming off an overtime road win in Santa Clara against the 49ers. Matt Moore or TJ Yates will start for the Dolphins and that is a massive drop off from Ryan Tannehill. Give me Bryce Petty (who showed some promise last week) and the Jets to pull off the upset victory at home.
Prediction: NY Jets 20, Miami 16.

Sunday, December 18th
Green Bay Packers (7-6) vs Chicago Bears (3-10)- 1:00, FOX: Green Bay is coming off a terrific home win over the Seattle Seahawks. Chicago is coming off a heartbreaking divisional road loss in Detroit against the Lions. The Pack proved last week that they're back and there won't be a letdown in Chicago against a putrid Bears team.
Prediction: Green Bay 33, Chicago 17.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) vs Houston Texans (7-6)- 1:00, CBS: Jacksonville is coming off a tough home loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Houston is coming off a big divisional road win in Indianapolis against the Colts. This game is unwatchable, but give me the Texans at home over a hapless Jags team that is bound to fire Gus Bradley soon.
Prediction: Houston 22, Jacksonville 16.

Cleveland Browns (0-13) vs Buffalo Bills (6-7)- 1:00, CBS: Cleveland is coming off a divisional home loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. Buffalo is coming off a disappointing home loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bills should win this game although the Rex Ryan rumors will continue to float.
Prediction: Buffalo 27, Cleveland 176.

Philadelphia Eagles (5-8) vs Baltimore Ravens (7-6)- 1:00, CBS: Philadelphia is coming off a heartbreaking divisional home loss against the Washington Redskins. Baltimore is coming off a tough road loss in Foxboro against the Patriots. The Ravens need this game to keep there playoff hopes alive and I believe they'll bounce back here and win at home against an Eagles team that has sputtered.
Prediction: Baltimore 30, Philadelphia 20.

Tennessee Titans (7-6) vs Kansas City Chiefs (10-3)- 1:00, CBS: Tennessee is coming off a huge home win over the Denver Broncos to keep their division hopes alive. Kansas City is coming off a huge Thursday night divisional home win over the Oakland Raiders. The Chiefs have been rolling lately and they'll continue to roll towards a possible first round bye with a win here.
Prediction: Kansas City 27, Tennessee 17.

Detroit Lions (9-4) vs New York Giants (9-4)- 1:00, FOX: Detroit is coming off a big divisional home win over the Chicago Bears. The Giants are coming an enormous Sunday night home win over the Dallas Cowboys. Both of these teams need a win here to ensure themselves a playoff spot, but with Matthew Stafford dealing with a hand injury, give me the Giants to win another big game at home led by the terrific defense.
Prediction: NY Giants 24, Detroit 20.

Indianapolis Colts (6-7) vs Minnesota Vikings (7-6)- 1:00, CBS: Indianapolis is coming off a very disappointing divisional home loss against the Houston Texans. Minnesota is coming off a big road win in Jacksonville against the Jaguars to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Vikes defense has played very well the last few weeks and I believe they'll slow down Andrew Luck and the Colts offense here at home.
Prediction: Minnesota 20, Indanapolis 17.

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5) vs Cincinnati Bengals (5-7-1)- 1:00, CBS: Pittsburgh is coming off a big road win in Buffalo against the Bills to get sole possession of first place in the AFC North. Cincinnati is coming off a divisional road win in Cleveland against the hapless Browns. The Steelers are rolling of both sides of the ball right now and I don't see how the Bengals can stop Le'Veon Bell.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 27, Cincinnati 20.

New Orleans Saints (5-8) vs Arizona Cardinals (5-7-1)- 4:05, FOX: New Orleans is coming off a tough divisional road loss in Tampa against the Buccaneers. Arizona is coming off a tough road loss in Miami against the Dolphins. The Cardinals just cut Michael Floyd due to his DUI arrest, but Floyd has disappointed this season. Despite all of that, give me the Cards at home.
Prediction: Arizona 30, New Orleans 24.

Oakland Raiders (10-3) vs San Diego Chargers (5-8)- 4:25, CBS: Oakland is coming off a tough Thursday night divisional road loss in Kansas City against the Chiefs. San Diego is coming off a tough road loss in Carolina against the Panthers. Don't be surprised if this is closer than people think, but the Raiders will pull it out on the road.
Prediction: Oakland 31, San Diego 26.

New England Patriots (11-2) vs Denver Broncos (8-5)- 4:25, CBS: Here is the game of the day! New England is coming off a big home win over the Baltimore Ravens. Denver is coming off a disappointing road loss in Nashville against the Titans. You know what? Give me the upset here. The Pats tend to struggle in Denver and the Broncos defense will rise to the occasion here.
Prediction: Denver 26, New England 23.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-5) vs Dallas Cowboys (11-2)- 8:30, NBC: Tampa Bay is coming off a huge divisional home win over the New Orleans Saints. Dallas is coming off a brutal Sunday night divisional road loss in East Rutherford against the Giants. I like Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense to bounce back here at home and end the Bucs five game winning streak.
Prediction: Dallas 27, Tampa Bay 23.

Monday, December 19th
Carolina Panthers (5-8) vs Washington Redskins (7-5-1)- 8:30, ESPN: Carolina is coming off a nice bounce back home win over the San Diego Chargers. Washington is coming off a huge divisional road win in Philadelphia against the Eagles to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Skins have been terrific at home all season and they'll win another huge game against the disappointing Panthers.
Prediction: Washington 33, Carolina 24.

2016-17 College Football Bowl Season: Picks

Here are my picks for all of the bowl games of the 2016-17 bowl season (with the exception of the College Football Playoff games).

December 17th, 2016
Gildan New Mexico Bowl: New Mexico (8-4) vs UTSA (6-6)- 2:00, ESPN: The Lobos won six of their last seven games with a red-hot offense. The Roadrunners have won five of their last eight games despite it's up and down play on both sides. The Lobos are the more superior team and they'll take this one. It certainly helps that they are home for this one as well.
Pick: New Mexico

Las Vegas Bowl Presented by Geico: Houston (9-3) vs San Diego State (10-3)- 3:30, ABC: This is a sneaky good game here between two very good Group of Five teams. The Cougars were a trendy pick to get to a New Years Six Bowl but they got picked off a few times on the road and now Tom Herman is now at Texas. The Aztecs won the MWC Conference Championship game and were capable of getting a New Years Six Bowl too. This is Donnell Pumphrey's final college game and I believe he'll lead the Aztecs to a win here.
Pick: San Diego State

Raycom Media Camellia Bowl: Appalachian State (9-3) vs Toledo (9-3)- 5:30, ESPN: This isn't a bad game either. The Mountaineers won a share of the Sun Belt title this season behind their great defense. The Rockets had a good season as well and they can flat out score. This is a tough call, but I like the Mountaineers here because they have balance on both sides of the ball.
Pick: Appalachian State

AutoNation Cure Bowl: UCF (6-6) vs Arkansas State (7-5)- 5:30, CBSSN: Central Florida went winless a year ago and now they're here in a bowl game. Arkansas State won seven of their last eight games to get to a bowl game. Talk about turn arounds. I like the Knights here and their offense to lead the way to complete this great turnaround season.
Pick: UCF

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Southern Miss (6-6) vs Louisiana-Lafayette (6-6)- 9:00, ESPN: The Golden Eagles had a disappointing season considering they were one of the Conference USA favorites before the season. The Rajin Cajuns won four of their final six games to get to this spot. The Eagles are just more talented than the Cajuns, especially offensively so give me the Eagles here despite the game being in New Orleans.
Pick: Southern Miss

December 19th, 2016
Miami Beach Bowl: Tulsa (9-3) vs Central Michigan (6-6)- 2:30, ESPN: Tulsa quietly had a great season and their offense was lights out. Central Michigan lost four of their last six games, so they have not played well. I love the Golden Hurricane and that offense to give them their tenth win, which will cap off a terrific season for Philip Montgomery's club.
Pick: Tulsa

December 20th, 2016
Boca Raton Bowl: Memphis (8-4) vs Western Kentucky (10-3)- 7:00, ESPN: Memphis had another solid season in their first season under Mike Norvell. WKU won their conference championship this season and are riding a seven game winning streak. This game will have a ton of scoring and give me the Hilltoppers here despite being coached by an interim head coach since Jeff Brohm left for Purdue.
Pick: Western Kentucky

December 21st, 2016
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl: BYU (8-4) vs Wyoming (8-5)- 9:00, ESPN: BYU had a solid season, but their quarterback Taysom Hill is hurt. Wyoming had a great season although they did lose their conference championship game. Despite the Cowboys losing three of their last four games and the Cougars winning seven of their last eight, Hill's injury will haunt the Cougs as the Cowboys will cap off a great season with an upset win.
Pick: Wyoming

December 22nd, 2016
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Idaho (8-4) vs Colorado State (7-5)- 7:00, ESPN: Idaho had a pretty good season despite moving down to the FCS next season. Colorado State won four of their last five games to get here. I like the Rams and their offense to light it up against Vandals defense, which has been inconsistent this season.
Pick: Colorado State

December 23rd, 2016
Popeyes Bahamas Bowl: Old Dominion (9-3) vs Eastern Michigan (7-5)- 1:00, ESPN: Both of these teams had terrific seasons. The Monarchs won eight of their last nine games. The Eagles have lost four of their last seven games. I love the Monarchs to close out a great season with their sixth straight win led by their offense.
Pick: Old Dominion

Lockheed Martin Air Forces Bowl: Navy (9-4) vs Louisiana Tech (8-4)- 4:30, ESPN: Navy had another great season despite losing their last two games to Temple and Army. Louisiana Tech had a decent season although they lost their conference championship game. The Midshipmen are down to their third-string quarterback and their running back is out as well. Give me the Bulldogs here.
Pick: Louisiana Tech

Dollar General BowlOhio (8-5) vs Troy (9-3)- 8:00, ESPN: Ohio had a nice season despite losing their conference championship game. Troy had a terrific season as well despite not winning their conference. The Trojans have been very balanced most of the season and that will show here.
Pick: Troy

December 24th, 2016
Hawaii Bowl: Middle Tennessee (8-4) vs Hawaii (6-7)- 8:00, ESPN: Middle Tennessee was the C-USA favorite before the season, but they did get to their conference championship game. Hawaii lost four of their last seven (although they won their last two). The Rainbow Warriors may be home, but the Blue Raiders are just the better team.
Pick: Middle Tennessee

December 26th, 2016
St. Petersburg Bowl: Mississippi State (5-7) vs Miami-Ohio (6-6)- 11:00, ESPN: Mississippi State became bowl eligibility due to APR. Miami-Ohio started 0-6 and won their final six games to become bowl eligible. The Bulldogs led by Nick Fitzgerald are the more superior team here and they'll get a bowl victory despite being 5-7.
Pick: Mississippi State

Quick Lane Bowl: Maryland (6-6) vs Boston College (6-6)- 2:30, ESPN: Maryland is here despite losing six of their final eight games. Boston College won three of their final five games to get here. The Eagles have a decent defense, but I don't love their offense. I like the Terps here in a close one.
Pick: Maryland

Camping World Independence Bowl: North Carolina State (6-6) vs Vanderbilt (6-6)- 5:30, ESPN2: North Carolina State had to win two of their final three games to get here. Vanderbilt won four of their final six to become bowl eligible. Derek Mason is a decent quarterback and the a Commodores have a decent defense, but can that defense stop the Wolfpacks offense? I'm not sure.
Pick: North Carolina State

December 27th, 2016
Zaxby's Heart Of Dallas Bowl: Army (5-7) vs North Texas (5-7)- 12:00, ESPN: Army won three of their final five games to become bowl eligibility. North Texas is bowl eligibility due to the APR rule. The Knights are flat out the better team here so they'll cap off a successful season with a bowl win despite people thinking they'll have a hangover from the Navy win.
Pick: Army

Military Bowl Presented By Northrop Grooman: Temple (10-3) vs Wake Forest (6-6)- 3:30, ESPN: Temple won it's conference championship this season thanks to a well rounded team. Wake Forest, despite losing five of their last six games, is bowl eligible. The Owls are just flat out better and I don't think Matt Rhule leaving for Baylor will affect the team, but I do think the turmoil around the Demon Deacons will be a distraction.
Pick: Temple

National Funding Holiday Bowl: Minnesota (8-4) vs Washington State (8-4)- 7:00, ESPN: Minnesota, despite some turmoil going on decided not to boycott their bowl game. Washington State had a great season this season as well and came close to winning their division. Something tells me Luke Falk will have a big game and lead the Cougars to a bowl win to close out a good season.
Pick: Washington State

Motel 6 Cactus Bowl: Baylor (6-6) vs Boise State (10-2)- 10:15, ESPN: Baylor started out unbeaten than wound up losing six straight games to close the regular season. Boise State had New Years Six potential but they got picked off a few times on the road in conference play that cost them a chance to play for the MWC Championship. Despite that, give me the Broncos big because I'm not sure if the Bears will get up for this considering how their season ended.
Pick: Boise State

December 28th, 2016
New Era Pinstripe Bowl: Pittsburgh (8-4) vs Northwestern (6-6)- 2:00, ESPN: Both teams have been playing well coming into this game. Pittsburgh has won their last three games and Northwestern won two of its final three to become bowl eligible. This should be a decent game, but I see James Conner leading the Panthers to a win here in the Bronx.
Pick: Pittsburgh

Russell Athletic Bowl: Miami (8-4) vs West Virginia (10-2)- 5:30, ESPN: This should be a fun game. Miami hasn't won a bowl game since 2006 and West Virginia has had a great season overall. Brad Kaaya should have a good game, but the Mountaineers are just a better team and I don't see the Canes defense stopping the 'Neers running game.
Pick: West Virginia

Foster Farms Bowl: Indiana (6-6) vs Utah (8-4)- 8:30, FOX: Indiana won three of their final games to become bowl eligible. Utah lost three of its final four games of the season, but they are still a decent team. That said, I like the Utes here.
Pick: Utah

AdvoCare 100 Texas Bowl: Kansas State (8-4) vs Texas A&M (8-4)- 9:00, ESPN: Kansas State has won five of their last six games to get here. Texas A&M has lost four of their last six games after starting unbeaten. The Wildcats, unlike the Aggies have been playing really good football lately, so I'll take them to win this one.
Pick: Kansas State

December 29th, 2016
Birmingham Bowl: South Carolina (6-6) vs South Florida (10-2)- 2:00, ESPN: South Carolina won four of their final six games to get bowl eligible. South Florida has had a great season and had New Years Six potential. That said, the Bulls are just flat out better and I don't see a decent Gamecocks defense stopping the Bulls offense.
Pick: South Florida

Belk Bowl: Arkansas (7-5) vs Virginia Tech (9-4)- 5:30, ESPN: Arkansas has been rotating wins and losses over the last few months. Virginia Tech has had a good season although they lost their conference championship game. That said, except a ton of points and good quarterback play, but I'm taking the Hokies here.
Pick: Virginia Tech

Valero Alamo Bowl: Oklahoma State (9-3) vs Colorado State (10-3)- 9:00, ESPN: This game should be a ton of fun. Oklahoma State won seven of their last eight games to get here. Colorado State has had a phenomenal season although they lost in the Pac-12 Championship game. Expect a ton of points here but give me the Buffaloes to cap off their amazing season.
Pick: Colorado State

December 30th, 2016
AutoZone Liberty Bowl: Georgia (7-5) vs TCU (6-6)- 12:00, ESPN: Georgia won three of their last four to become bowl eligible. TCU is here despite losing four of their last six games. It wouldn't surprise me if it's high scoring or low scoring, but give me the Bulldogs.
Pick: Georgia

Hyundai Sun Bowl: Stanford (9-3) vs North Carolina (8-4)- 1:30, CBS: This should be a decent game, although it would have been more fun if Christian McCaffrey had played. Mitch Trubisky is a star quarterback and he'll lead the Tar Heels to a bowl win here.
Pick: North Carolina

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Nebraska (9-3) vs Tennessee (8-4)- 3:30, ESPN: Nebraska lost three of their last five games. Tennessee has won three of its last four games. Tommy Armstrong hasn't been healthy for the Huskers so who knows if he'll play or not, so give me the Vols led by Josh Dobbs.
Pick: Tennessee

Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl: Air Force (9-3) vs South Alabama (6-6)- 5:30, ASN: Air Force has won five straight games to this point. South Alabama has been up and down and some impressive wins this season. Give me the hot team here and that is the Falcons, who are the better team here.
Pick: Air Force

Capital One Orange Bowl: Florida State (9-3) vs Michigan (10-2)- 8:30, ESPN: This should be a fairly entertaining game. There's some star power abound in this one as well. Expect the Wolverines defense to keep Dalvin Cook in check and for Jabril Peppers to make big plays to lead the Wolverines to a New Years Six bowl win.
Pick: Michigan

December 31st, 2016
Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl: Louisville (9-3) vs LSU (7-4)- 11:00, ABC: This should be an interesting game, although it would have been more fun if Leonard Forunette played. The Cardinals did lose their last two games, but Lamar Jackson should lead them to a bowl win.
Pick: Louisville

TaxSlayer Bowl: Georgia Tech (8-4) vs Kentucky (7-5)- 11:00, ESPN: Georgia Tech has won five of their last six games to get here. Kentucky has won five of their last seven as well. This was a tough call, but give me the Yellow Jackets here in a close one.
Pick: Georgia Tech

January 2nd, 2017
Outback Bowl: Florida (8-4) vs Iowa (8-4)- 1:00, ABC: Florida made the SEC Championship game and including that, they lost three of their last five games. Iowa won their final three games, including a big upset over Michigan to get to this bowl. Expect a low scoring game here and for the Hawkeyes to come out on top.
Pick: Iowa

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic: Western Michigan (13-0) vs Wisconsin (10-3)- 1:00, ESPN: Western Michigan went unbeaten, including the MAC Championship and here they are with their well deserved New Years Six bid. Wisconsin made the Big-10 Championship game, but lost to Penn State. This should be an entertaining, high scoring game, but give me the Badgers here in a close one.
Pick: Wisconsin

Rose Bowl Game Presented By Northwestern Mutual: Penn State (11-2) vs USC (9-3)- 5:00, ESPN: Penn State won the Big-10 Championship, but since they had two losses, they deserve the Rose Bowl instead of the College Football Playoff, which is a nice constellation prize. USC has won eight straight games to get themselves here. You can argue the Trojans should be in the Alamo Bowl instead and the Colorado Buffaloes should be here, but the Trojans led by Sam Darnold are just the better team here and they'll close out the season with nine straight wins.
Pick: USC

AllState Sugar Bowl: Oklahoma (10-2) vs Auburn (8-4)- 8:30, ESPN: Oklahoma has won nine straight games, including the Big-12 Championship to get here. Auburn is here despite losing two of their last three games. Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook have been an unstoppable duo all season long and that will be the difference here in this game as the Sooners will close the season with ten straight wins.
Pick: Oklahoma

2016 NFL Week 14 Picks

Here are my picks for week fourteen of the 2016 NFL season.

Thursday, December 8th
Oakland Raiders (10-2) vs Kansas City Chiefs (9-3)- 8:25, NBC/NFLN: Oakland is coming off a huge comeback home win against the Buffalo Bills. Kansas City is coming off a huge road win in Atlanta against the Falcons. This game will likely decide the AFC West and a first-round bye and I believe the Chiefs defense will lead the way to a huge primetime win.
Prediction: Kansas City 27, Oakland 20.

Sunday, December 11th
Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) vs Buffalo Bills (6-6)- 1:00, CBS: Pittsburgh is coming off a huge home win over the New York Giants. Buffalo is coming off a brutal road loss in Oakland against the Raiders in which they blew a 24-9 lead in. The Bills are home, but the Steelers have won three straight games and their defense is playing better as well and I believe they'll stop Tyrod Taylor and that Bills offense.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 23, Buffalo 17.

Denver Broncos (8-4) vs Tennessee Titans (6-6)- 1:00, CBS: Denver is coming off a road win in Jacksonville against the Jaguars. Tennessee is coming off their bye and two weeks ago, they won in Chicago against the lowly Jay Cutler-less Bears. This screams "trap" for the Broncos with New England coming up next week, but I believe their defense will pick off Marcus Mariota possibly more than once and will win another road game.
Prediction: Denver 20, Tennessee 17.

Washington Redskins (6-5-1) vs Philadelphia Eagles (5-7)- 1:00, FOX: Washington is coming off a brutal road loss in Glendale against the Cardinals. Philadelphia is coming off a brutal road loss in Cincinnati against the shorthanded Bengals. Carson Wentz has hit a rookie wall so I don't see how they can score with this Skins offense.
Prediction: Washington 28, Philadelphia 20.

Arizona Cardinals (5-6-1) vs Miami Dolphins (7-5)- 1:00, FOX: Arizona is coming off a nice home win over the Washington Redskins. Miami is coming off a disastrous road loss in Baltimore against the Ravens. This was a tough call, but give me the Dolphins to bounce back this week at home against a Cardinals team that isn't good on the road.
Prediction: Miami 27, Arizona 19.

San Diego Chargers (5-7) vs Carolina Panthers (4-8)- 1:00, CBS: San Diego is coming off a brutal home loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina is coming off a disastrous Sunday night road loss in Seattle against the Seahawks. The Chargers have found ways to lose all season long, but so have the Panthers, who have been dealing with turmoil with Cam Newton not following the dress code. Give me Phillip Rivers to have a field day on the road.
Prediction: San Diego 31, Carolina 23.

Cincinnati Bengals (4-7-1) vs Cleveland Browns (0-12)- 1:00, CBS: Cincinnati is coming off a nice home win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Cleveland is coming off their bye and two weeks ago, they lost at home against the New York Giants. The Bengals have a ton of injuries right now and the Browns have been somewhat competitive the last few weeks and I actually think this is their chance to get a win to avoid a winless season and guess what? I'm getting crazy and picking the Browns to pull it out at home.
Prediction: Cleveland 20, Cincinnati 17.

Chicago Bears (3-9) vs Detroit Lions (8-4)- 1:00, FOX: Chicago is coming off a home win over the San Francisco 49ers in the snow. Detroit is coming off an excellent road win in New Orleans against the Saints. The Lions are playing great football right now and I believe they'll win big here and because of that, the Lions are my lock of the week.
Prediction: Detroit 36, Chicago 17.

Houston Texans (6-6) vs Indianapolis Colts (6-6)- 1:00, CBS: Houston is coming off a tough road loss in Green Bay against the Packers in the snow. Indianapolis is coming off an impressive Monday Night road win in East Rutherford against the Jets. This game will likely decide the AFC South and give me Andrew Luck and the Colts to win a big game at home.
Prediction: Indianapolis 27, Houston 20.

Minnesota Vikings (6-6) vs Jacksonville Jaguars (2-10)- 1:00, FOX: Minnesota is coming off a brutal Thursday Night home loss against the Dallas Cowboys. Jacksonville is coming off a home loss against the Denver Broncos. This game will be ugly and don't be surprised if the Vikes defense gets some pick sixes in this game.
Prediction: Minnesota 20, Jacksonville 10.

New York Jets (3-9) vs San Francisco 49ers (1-11)- 4:05, CBS: The Jets are coming off a disastrous Monday Night home loss against the Indianapolis Colts. San Francisco is coming off a bad road loss in Chicago against the Bears in the snow. Colin Kaepernick did not play well in Chicago, but the Jets are a mess and Kaepernick will take advantage of their porous defense and Bryce Petty is not the answer at quarterback, either.
Prediction: San Francisco 24, NY Jets 16.

Atlanta Falcons (7-5) vs Los Angeles Rams (4-8)- 4:25, FOX: Atlanta is coming off a disappointing home loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. Los Angeles is coming off a road loss in Foxboro against the Patriots. This screams "trap" for the Falcons, but Matt Ryan and that offense will avoid it this week against a disappointing Rams defense.
Prediction: Atlanta 27, Los Angeles 17.

Seattle Seahawks (8-3-1) vs Green Bay Packers (6-6)- 4:25, FOX: This is a big game for sure. Seattle is coming off a huge home win over the Carolina Panthers. Green Bay is coming off a big home win over the Houston Texans to get back to .500 on the season. Earl Thomas is out for the season for Seattle, but I need to see more from the Packers to officially declare them "back" as a contender and that would mean beating the Seahawks. This will be a close one, but give me Russell Wilson to find a way on the road in a tough environment.
Prediction: Seattle 23, Green Bay 20.

Dallas Cowboys (11-1) vs New York Giants (8-4)- 8:30, NBC: This is the best game of the weekend between what I feel is the leagues best rivalry. Dallas is coming off a hard fought Thursday Night road win in Minneapolis against the Vikings. The Giants are coming off a bad road loss in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. Jason Pierre-Paul is out for the remainder of the regular season and that's a big loss for the Giants. The Giants have been hearing it all week long about how their six-game win streak was an aberration and the Cowboys can clinch the NFC East with a win here. Don't be surprised if the Cowboys are a little giddy and the Giants are motivated to not let the Cowboys celebrate a division crown on their home field. Give me Eli Manning and Big Blue to bounce back and pull if off on Sunday Night Football.
Prediction: NY Giants 27, Dallas 26.

Monday, December 12th
Baltimore Ravens (7-5) vs New England Patriots (10-2)- 8:30, ESPN: Here's another big game. Baltimore is coming off a great home win over the Miami Dolphins. New England is coming off a home win over the Los Angeles Rams. Tom Brady and the Pats usually excel in games like this and I believe they'll win a big home game on Monday Night Football against a hot Ravens team.
Prediction: New England 33, Baltimore 24.
