2019 NFL Mock Draft: Fourth Edition

Here is the fourth edition of my 2019 NFL Mock Draft.

1. Arizona Cardinals- Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama: I had Nick Bosa penciled in this spot the first three mock drafts, but the more I think about it, the more Williams makes sense. The Cardinals already have Chandler Jones as an edge rusher and have a bigger need in the interior which makes Williams a great fit.

2. San Francisco 49ers- Nick Bosa, Defensive End, Ohio State: Getting the best player in the draft is always a win for whomever drafts the player. Bosa would be an upgrade over any of the pass rushers currently on the Niners roster and he would have an immediate impact like Myles Garrett did a few years back with the Browns.

3. New York Jets- Josh Allen, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Kentucky: Allen is the one player that was a huge riser from the summer until now. The Jets have a need for immediate impact talent (and versatility) on the defensive side of the ball and Allen would be a great fit.

4. Oakland Raiders- Rashan Gary, Defensive End, Michigan: The Raiders begin to build their pass rush by selecting Gary, who didn't really live up to his number one overall prospect ranking he was given in high school. If Gary produces in the pros, this will turn out to be a great selection as they would finally replace Khalil Mack.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Ed Oliver, Defensive Tackle, Houston: Oliver was once projected a consensus top-five pick before the season and then his stock has dropped dramatically due to injuries and not playing upto expectations. Oliver is versatile and he could replace Gerald McCoy on the defense long term.

6. New York Giants- Dwayne Haskins, Quarterback, Ohio State: Eli Manning's days of being a good starting quarterback in the league are over and his future is uncertain at this point. Haskins handing the ball off to Saquon Barkley and throwing it to Odell Beckham Jr would only jumpstart his career and it would be fun to watch.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars- Kyler Murray, Quarterback, Oklahoma: The Blake Bortles experiment in Jacksonville should be over as Tom Coughlin is regretting paying him last offseason. Murray recently declared to the NFL Draft instead of going to baseball and despite his height, he just won the Heisman Trophy and look at how his predecessor Baker Mayfield succeeded as a rookie in the league.

8. Detroit Lions- Montez Sweat, Defensive End, Mississippi State: Some might feel that this is a reach, but Sweat's stock has risen recently after a good Senior Bowl. Sweat posted double digit sack seasons two years in a row and he's a solid run defender too. The Lions also need to possibly replace Ziggy Ansah which makes this pick an important one.

9. Buffalo Bills- Jonah Williams, Offensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams falling this far would be a massive steal for a team that needs help on the offensive line. He is the best lineman in the draft and he'll be Josh Allen's left tackle for years to come.

10. Denver Broncos- Drew Lock, Quarterback, Missouri: With Case Keenum future uncertain belong 2019, the Broncos take perhaps their future franchise quarterback in Lock. His stock has risen with a strong finish to his season and has a very strong arm.

11. Cincinnati Bengals- Devin White, Linebacker, LSU: White was the best linebacker in the country this past season and he would be a fine selection. Vontaze Burfict is injury prone now a days and Preston Brown is a free agent, so White would provide some energy to an aging Bengals defense.

12. Green Bay Packers- Jeffery Simmons, Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State: The Packers need more help on the defensive side of the ball and an area they have to address is the interior line. Muhammad Wilkerson could walk as a free agent and Simmons would be a fine replacement.

13. Miami Dolphins- Greedy Williams, Cornerback, LSU: A player of Williams's caliber should not drop this far as the Dolphins snag him in mid-first round. He would join Minkah Fitzpatrick as another building block in that secondary.

14. Atlanta Falcons- Christian Wilkins, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: Dabo Sweeney has three great defensive lineman who project to go in the first round. Wilkins could be an immediate starter for Dan Quinn and he could replace free agent Gardy Jarrett on the defensive line.

15. Washington Redskins- Jacahi Polite, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida: Polite is someone coming off a breakthrough year in college and his draft stock rose in light of it. The Redskins can use some high upside players on their pass rush although a quarterback is the more pressing need.

16. Carolina Panthers- Andre Dillard, Offensive Tackle, Washington State: Dillard is one of the biggest risers thanks to a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. The Panthers need to shore up Cam Newton's blind slide and Dillard would be a fine selection.

17. Cleveland Browns- DK Metclaf, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: The Browns suddenly look like a team that is clearly on the come. An offensive lineman is the wiser choice but Baker Mayfield can use another reliable wideout other than Jarvis Landry and Metclaf could be that.

18. Minnesota Vikings- Cody Ford, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma: The Vikings were arguably the leagues most disappointing team this past season and there biggest issue was protecting Kirk Cousins. Ford would at least help the Vikings offensive line and find holes for Dalvin Cook.

19. Tennessee Titans- Marquise Brown, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma: The Titans are a team that needs playmakers on offense, in particular a receiver. Brown would be a nice piece for the offense and gives Marcus Mariota a nice weapon to throw to.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers- Byron Murphy, Cornerback, Washington: Murphy falling this far would be a pretty big steal for the Steelers. Yes, a receiver is probably a bigger need with Antonio Brown likely to be traded or released, but they do need more secondary depth and Murphy would be a good fit.

21. Seattle Seahawks- Dionte Thompson, Safety, Alabama: Thompson would be a steal dropping this far. "Legion of Boom" is gone in The Emerald City and drafting the best safety in the draft would be great for Pete Carroll's young secondary.

22. Baltimore Ravens- K'Neal Harry, Wide Receiver, Arizona State: Harry is someone who could wind up a steal from this spot. This would be a nice weapon for Lamar Jackson, who needs a downfield threat guy to help his development.

23. Houston Texans- Jawaan Taylor, Offensive Tackle, Florida: Cornerback is another Texans big need, but DeShaun Watson badly needs protection and Taylor would help the problem. The Texans have the worst offensive line perhaps in the sport and that should be the teams top priority this offseason.

24. Oakland Raiders (from Chicago Bears)- Deandre Baker, Cornerback, Georgia: The Raiders have a ton of young players and none of them have panned out yet. Baker is one of the best 3 corners in the draft which makes this a fine selection by Jon Gruden and Mike Maycock.

25. Philadelphia Eagles- Dexter Lawrence, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: Three Clemson players are expected to go in the first round and Lawrence could wind up the best one of the trio. He reminds me of current Eagle Fletcher Cox and the thought of those two on the interior together is scary.

26. Indianapolis Colts- Jerry Tillery, Defensive Tackle, Notre Dame: The Colts found two foundational pieces in last years draft. Tillery is someone that is steady and versatile and would make their defensive line stronger.

27. Oakland Raiders (from Dallas Cowboys)- Josh Jacobs, Running Back, Alabama: The Raiders offensive play makers are aging and Jacobs would be a solid fit. He draws comparisons to Alvin Kamara and he would be an upgrade over Doug Martin and Marhsawn Lynch.

28. Los Angeles Chargers- Greg Little, Offensive Tackle, Ole Miss: Phillip Rivers has shown zero signs of decline of late and some protection on the offensive line would be smart with some of that unit aging. A defensive player would have been a wise choice, but so would Little.

29. Kansas City Chiefs- Trayvon Mullen, Cornerback, Clemson: Mullen is a fast riser as of right now and addresses arguably the Chiefs biggest need. The Chiefs secondary was exposed against the Pats and Mullen would be an upgrade.

30. Green Bay Packers (from New Orleans Saints)- Noah Fant, Tight End, Iowa: Jimmy Graham isn't the same player he once was in New Orleans so the Packers should snag the best tight end in this draft class in Fant. He is very athletic and he can have a similar impact as Dallas Goedert did as a rookie with the Eagles this season.

31. New England Patriots- Clelin Ferrell, Defensive End, Clemson: The Patriots pass on a quarterback for a day one starter who would prove to be a massive steal in this spot. Ferrell is a pass rusher passing up on a quarterback for.

32. Los Angeles Rams- Nasir Adderley, Safety, Delaware: Adderley is a fast riser thanks to a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. The Rams may have a need at safety if LaMarcus Joyner departs in free agency and Adderley could be worth a shot here.

2019 NFL Mock Draft: Third Edition

Here is the third edition of my 2019 NFL Mock Draft.

1. Arizona Cardinals- Nick Bosa, Defensive End, Ohio State: Bosa is the best player in this draft and certainly has a chance to be a multi-time All-Pro player. The Cardinals have needs everywhere on their roster other than a quarterback and getting a possible franchise player to lead your pass rush to go with Chandler Jones is very enticing.

2. San Francisco 49ers- Josh Allen, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Kentucky: Allen was the key kog to a Wildcats defense which rode the team to a phenomenal season. His draft stock has risen dramatically throughout the season and the 49ers are a logical fit because they need an edge rusher.

3. New York Jets- Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams was an intimidating presence in the middle of the Tide's defensive line the past few seasons. The Jets have a ton of needs so they can build around Sam Darnold and the defensive line is somewhere where they have talent that hasn't panned out yet and putting Williams alongside Leonard Williams would be fun.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Jonah Williams, Offensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams was the best lineman perhaps in the country this season and did a great job protecting Tua Tagovailoa. The Bucs bigger needs lie on defense but passing up on a possible future All-Pro offensive lineman to protect Jameis Winston would not be great.

8. Detroit Lions- Ed Oliver, Defensive Tackle, Houston: Oliver was once projected a top-five pick and his stock has dropped dramatically. The Lions need defensive line help with Ziggy Ansah possibly walking in free agency and Oliver would be a good selection if he lives upto hype.

9. Buffalo Bills- Dalton Risner, Offensive Tackle, Kansas State: Risner had a phenomenal college career and there's a good chance he's a Day One draft pick. The Bills offensive line is awful and they need to protect Josh Allen and Risner would be a safe pick.

12. Green Bay Packers- Deionte Thompson, Safety, Alabama: If the Packers want to get back into contention, they must fix their secondary, especially after trading away Ha-Ha Clinton Dix. Thompson is the best safety in the draft and he'd be a great pick here by the Pack.

13. Miami Dolphins- Clelin Ferrell, Defensive End, Clemson: There are reports out there that the Dolphins are eyeing next years quarterback with studs like Tua Tagovailoa and Jake Fromm declare. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have needs at other positions and Ferrell is someone that can start right away in the league and would pair nice with Cameron Wake.

15. Washington Redskins- Dexter Lawrence, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: Three straight Clemson defensive lineman taken as the Redskins pass on a quarterback to improve their interior defense. Lawrence to go with Daron Payne on their interior would be scary for opponents.

16. Carolina Panthers- Greedy Williams, Cornerback, LSU: A player of Williams's caliber should not drop this far as the Panthers snag him in mid-first round. Their secondary isn't great and getting perhaps the best cornerback in the draft is a win considering Captian Munnerlyn isn't getting younger.

17. Cleveland Browns- Cody Ford, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma: Guess what? The Browns actually have a good roster so they don't have any obvious needs! Where they can use some help is offensive line as their tackles aren't good and Ford could end up as a good left tackle to help protect Baker Mayfield.

18. Minnesota Vikings- Greg Little, Offensive Tackle, Ole Miss: The Vikings were arguably the leagues most disappointing team this past season and there biggest issue was protecting Kirk Cousins. Little would at least help the Vikings offensive line and find holes for Dalvin Cook.

19. Tennessee Titans- Brian Burns, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida State: Burns is someone who's draft stock has risen throughout the season due to his speed and good frame. Brian Orakpo's retirement opens up a need for the Titans and Burns would fit nicely in Mike Vrabel's defense.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers- K'Neal Harry, Wide Receiver, Arizona State: Harry is someone who could wind up a steal from this spot, if not, the most talented receiver in the draft. This would be a nice weapon for Ben Rothlisberger as they perhaps replace Antonio Brown.

21. Seattle Seahawks- Montez Sweat, Defensive End, Mississippi State: The Seahawks are a team that exceeded expectations, but still have obvious flaws on their roster. Their pass rush is not what it was five seasons ago and Sweat would be a fine pick to go with Frank Clark.

22. Baltimore Ravens- Jacahi Polite, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida: Polite is someone coming off a breakthrough year in college and his draft stock rose in light of it. The Ravens can use some high upside players on their pass rush although a receiver is probably the more pressing need.

23. Houston Texans- Yodny Cajuste, Offensive Tackle, West Virginia: Cornerback is another Texans big need, but DeShaun Watson badly needs protection and Cajuste would help the problem. The Texans have the worst offensive line perhaps in the sport and that should be the teams top priority this offseason.

24. Oakland Raiders (from Chicago Bears)- Kelvin Hamron, Wide Receiver, North Carolina State: The Raiders now shift their focus to offense where they do need some young blood at skill positions. Martavis Bryant is gone and Jordy Nelson is aging, so Harmon would be a nice weapon for Derek Carr.

25. Philadelphia Eagles- Byron Murphy, Cornerback, Washington: Murphy falling this far would be a massive steal for the Eagles. He would be a nice fit in Jim Schwartz's defense to go with Ronald Darby and Malcolm Jenkins in that secondary.

26. Indianapolis Colts- DK Metclaf, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: The Colts suddenly look like a team that has a look of a contender. A defensive player is the wiser choice but Andrew Luck needs another reliable wideout other than TY Hilton and Metclaf could be that.

27. Oakland Raiders (from Dallas Cowboys)- Jeffery Simmons, Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State: The Raiders continue to rebuild their defense by fixing their interior with Simmons. He's one of the better interior lineman in the draft and this would be a solid pick by Jon Gruden and Mike Maycock.

28. Los Angeles Chargers- Mack Wilson, Linebacker, Alabama: The Chargers do have a ton of playmakers on defense, but their defense was exposed against the Patriots and need more help defending the run. Wilson would be a good addition to the linebacking corps to strengthen that unit.

29. Kansas City Chiefs- DeAndre Baker, Cornerback, Georgia: The Chiefs secondary got flat out exposed in its AFC Championship game loss against the Patriots. Baker is one of the better corners in the draft he would have an immediate impact on a secondary that needs playmakers.

31. New England Patriots- Daniel Jones, Quarterback, Duke: Tom Brady is going to be forty-two years old and can't play forever. Jones had a good Senior Bowl and scouts are taking him more seriously as a first round possibility despite being injured last season in college.

32. Los Angeles Rams- Zach Allen, Defensive End, Boston College: Trade acquisition Dante Fowler Jr is going to be a free agent after the season and would have a need at pass rusher. Allen's stock has risen after a fine season in college and he would be a nice add.

2018-19 NFL Playoffs: Championship Round Picks

Here are my picks for the Championship Round of the 2018-19 NFL Playoffs.

NFC Championship Game
(2) Los Angeles Rams vs (1) New Orleans Saints- 3:00, FOX: These two teams met earlier in the season in the same venue in a high scoring affair. The Rams are coming off an impressive Divisional Round home win over the Dallas Cowboys led by their rushing attack duo of Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson. The Saints are coming off a Divisional Round home win over the Philadelphia Eagles in which not only they trailed 14-0 in, but could have lost the game if Alshon Jeffery didn't let the ball slip from his hands that led to the game sealing interception. The Saints offense showed signs of it's self in the second half of last weekends game and they suffered a big injury with the loss of defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, so expect the Rams running backs to have success again. The Rams defense as a whole is healthy with Aqib Talib back in the secondary, meanwhile Michael Thomas is a beast and seems to catch everything that comes his way. That said, Drew Brees and Sean Payton are undefeated at the Superdome in playoff games and I do expect the Saints to find away to win.
Prediction: New Orleans 27, LA Rams 23.

AFC Championship Game
(2) New England Patriots vs (1) Kansas City Chiefs- 6:30, CBS: These two teams also met in the regular season and it was a classic of a game in which the Patriots won in their home building. The Patriots are coming off an impressive Divisional Round home win over the Los Angeles Chargers in which the final score didn't replicate how dominant the Pats were. The Chiefs are coming off an impressive Divisional Round home win of their own too except over the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots for the first time in a long time looked like the dominant team that many expected them to be this season against a quality playoff opponent, but we shall see how this translate against the MVP favorite in Patrick Mahomes that their defense has to face. The Chiefs defense surprisingly played very well against an offense in the Colts that was playing well heading into that game. My fear is that the Colts poor offensive showing has more to do with their inexperience in cold weather rather than the Chiefs defense playing lights out. That said, I do expect a shootout and I like the Chiefs led by Mahomes and that high powered offense in their home building despite Andy Reid's reputation as a "can't win the big game" coach.
Prediction: Kansas City 34, New England 27.

2019 NFL Mock Draft: Second Draft

Here is the second edition of my 2019 NFL Mock Draft.

2. San Francisco 49ers- Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams was an intimidating presence in the middle of the Tide's defensive line the past few seasons. The Niners have some talent on their defensive line with DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas and adding Williams to those guys would only make that unit stronger.

3. New York Jets- Jonah Williams, Offensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams was the best lineman perhaps in the country this season and did a great job protecting Tua Tagovailoa. A young quarterback that needs a good offensive line is Sam Darnold, which makes the Jets a logical fit here.

4. Oakland Raiders- Josh Allen, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Kentucky: Allen was the key kog to a Wildcats defense which rode the team to a phenomenal season. His draft stock has risen dramatically throughout the season and the Raiders are a logical fit because they need an edge rusher and they've haven't replaced Khalil Mack's production yet.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Brian Burns, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida State: Burns is someone who's draft stock has risen throughout the season due to his speed and good frame. Jason-Pierre Paul is someone who is nearing the end of his prime and Burns would be a good long term solution as a pass rusher.

8. Detroit Lions- Greedy Williams, Cornerback, LSU: The Lions have a lot of needs after yet another disappointing season. Williams would slide in to go with Darius Slay and Quandre Diggs to form a nice secondary for Matt Patricia.

9. Buffalo Bills- Ed Oliver, Defensive Tackle, Houston: Oliver was once projected a top-five pick and his stock has dropped dramatically. The Bills need to replace the newly retired Kyle Williams and this could wind up with a major steal here potentially if Oliver lives up to his capability.

10. Denver Broncos- Byron Murphy, Cornerback, Washington: Yes, the Broncos need a quarterback for the future, but they also have a need in the secondary as two of their starters will be free agents. Murphy was the best defensive back on the Huskies this past season and he would have an impact in the league.

11. Cincinnati Bengals- Dalton Risner, Offensive Tackle, Kansas State: Risner had a phenomenal college career and there's a good chance he's a Day One draft pick. The Bengals offensive line isn't awful but Risner would be an upgrade over 2015 first round bust Cedric Ogbuehi.

14. Atlanta Falcons- Dexter Lawrence, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: Dabo Sweeney has three great defensive lineman who project to go in the first round. Lawrence may have been suspended for the College Football Playoff but he is arguably the most talented player of the trio and would be a nice addition to the Falcons defensive line.

15. Washington Redskins- Drew Lock, Quarterback, Missouri: With Alex Smith's future uncertain, the Skins take perhaps their future franchise quarterback in Lock. His stock has risen with a strong finish to his season and has a very strong arm.

16. Carolina Panthers- Chris Lindstrom, Guard, Boston College: The Panthers never replaced the free agent loss of Andrew Norwell last offseason. Lindstrom would be a good addition to this line to keep Cam Newton upright and to find holes for Christian McCaffrey in the run game.

17. Cleveland Browns- DeAndre Baker, Cornerback, Georgia: For once, the Browns really don't have many needs! The secondary can use another body and Baker to go with Denzel Ward would be something fun to watch.

19. Tennessee Titans- DK Metclaf, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: Metclaf is perhaps the best receiver in the draft class and the Titans make a good match because they are a team desperate for play makers. Corey Davis hasn't really lived up to top ten pick status and Metclaf would immediately become their top option.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers- Devin White, Linebacker, LSU: White was the best linebacker in the country this past season and he would be a fine selection by a Steelers team that has a need here since they never really replaced Ryan Shazier. He is great off the ball and would make life easier for their secondary.

21. Seattle Seahawks- Jacahi Polite, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida: Polite is someone coming off a breakthrough year in college and his draft stock rose in light of it. The Seahawks need some young blood in their pass rush after Michael Bennett departed and Polite would be a good choice.

22. Baltimore Ravens- K'Neal Harry, Wide Receiver, Arizona State: Harry is someone who could wind up a steal from this spot. This would be a nice weapon for Lamar Jackson, who needs a downfield threat guy to help his development.

23. Houston Texans- Cody Ford, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma: Cornerback is another Texans big need, but DeShaun Watson badly needs protection and Ford would help the problem. The Texans have the worst offensive line perhaps in the sport and that should be the teams top priority this offseason.

24. Oakland Raiders (from Chicago Bears)- Rashan Gary, Defensive End, Michigan: The Raiders continue to build their pass rush by selecting Gary, who didn't really live up to his number one overall prospect ranking he was given in high school. If Gary produces in the pros, this will be a steal because he has a lot of potential.

25. Philadelphia Eagles- Kelvin Hamron, Wide Receiver, North Carolina State: The Eagles have a very good roster despite injuries that derailed them throughout the season. Whether it's Carson Wentz or Nick Foles next season, they do need another wide out and Harmon is someone who would be a good alongside Alshon Jeffery.

26. Indianapolis Colts- Marquise Brown, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma: The Colts suddenly look like a team that has a look of a contender. A defensive player is the wiser choice but Andrew Luck needs another reliable wideout other than TY Hilton and Brown could be that.

27. Oakland Raiders (from Dallas Cowboys)- AJ Brown, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: The Raiders now shift their focus to offense where they do need some young blood at skill positions. Brown was overshadowed by DK Metclaf in college and Brown would be a nice piece for Derek Carr in that offense going forward.

28. Los Angeles Chargers- Jeffery Simmons, Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State: Upgrading either line with this pick would be a wise move by the Chargers. A talent like Simmons on the same defensive line as Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram would be frightening.

29. New England Patriots- Christian Wilkins, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: The Pats arguably should explore trading up for Tom Brady's successor or take an offensive lineman here, but passing up on a defensive talent in Wilkins won't be easy. The Pats need help on the defensive line and Wilkins can come in and start immediately for Bill Belichick.

30. Los Angeles Rams- Montez Sweat, Defensive End, Mississippi State: The Rams are a team that needs young blood on the edges and Sweat would be a fine choice. He had 12.5 of sacks this past year, but he isn't as athletic as guys like Nick Bosa or Josh Allen which shouldn't shy off any team, especially the Rams.

31. Kansas City Chiefs- Mack Wilson, Linebacker, Alabama: The Chiefs have needs at pretty much every defensive position and now one at running back emerges with the Kareem Hunt disaster off their hands. Their defense will hold them back from not winning a Super Bowl, so Wilson is the pick here to solidify the linebacker position.

2018-19 NFL Playoffs: Divisional Round Picks

Here are my picks for the Divisional Round of the 2018-19 NFL Playoffs.

Saturday, January 12th
(A6) Indianapolis Colts vs (A1) Kansas City Chiefs- 4:30, NBC: The Colts are coming off an excellent performance in Houston against the Texans in the Wild Card round. The Chiefs had a first round bye and have home field advantage throughout the AFC Playoffs. Both of these offenses are lights out with solid offensive lines with MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes leading the way for the Chiefs and the rejuvenated Andrew Luck leading the way for the Colts. The Chiefs defense is perhaps the worst among the remaining playoff teams and the Colts defense is unproven because they haven't seen an offense as good as the Chiefs. This game will have a ton of points scored and it's bound to be a close game and I like Mahomes and that offense to lead the way for Chiefs in their home building.
Prediction: Kansas City 34, Indianapolis 31.

(N4) Dallas Cowboys vs (N2) Los Angeles Rams- 8:15, FOX: The Cowboys are coming off a win in Wild Card weekend against the Seattle Seahawks in which Dak Prescott was clutch throwing and running the ball and the defense made key stops. The Rams had a first round bye in the NFC Playoffs and it's a good thing they got that as Todd Gurley wasn't (and maybe still isn't) healthy. The Rams passing game has not been the same since Cooper Kupp was lost for the season, but CJ Anderson did a solid job running the football in Gurley's absence and I have a feeling he'll be heard from in this game. The Cowboys defense is perhaps the most underrated unit among playoff teams, but I'm not sure how their once vaunted offensive line will stop Aaron Donald on the Rams interior. There will be Cowboys fans in the building, but I think the Rams win courtesy of Donald and a healthier Gurley and Anderson in the running game.
Prediction: LA Rams 27, Dallas 24.

Sunday, January 13th
(A5) Los Angeles Chargers vs (A2) New England Patriots- 1:00, FOX: The Chargers are coming off a good performance (especially on the defensive end) in Baltimore against the Ravens in the Wild Card Round. The Patriots had a first round bye in the playoffs, but it will be determined on Sunday whether it works our for them or not because they clearly haven't been as good as years past on the offensive side of the ball (despite putting up points against two bad teams in their division the last two weeks of the regular season). Tom Brady finally began to show his age this season and Rob Gronkowski is past his prime. Meanwhile the Chargers have athletes on both sides of the ball and Phillip Rivers is motivated to finally come through against the Pats. Give me the Chargers to pull off the road upset.
Prediction: LA Chargers 27, New England 20.

(N6) Philadelphia Eagles vs (N1) New Orleans Saints- 4:40, FOX: The Eagles are coming off a last second win in the Wild Card round over the Chicago Bears courtesy of a Cody Parkey missed field goal as time expired, but shortly before that Nick Foles threw the go-ahead touchdown pass to give the Eagles the lead. The Saints got a much needed first round bye and have home-field advantage in the NFC Playoffs. Drew Brees and the Saints offense hasn't been the same since before the Thursday night loss in Jerry World and a banged up Eagles defense is just what the doctor ordered for the Saints offense to get back on track. Give me the Saints in the Superdome in a game where Foles and the Eagle offense will give it there all in.
Prediction: New Orleans 23, Philadelphia 16.

2019 NFL Mock Draft: First Edition

Here is the first edition of my 2019 NFL Mock Draft.

4. Oakland Raiders- Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle, Alabama: Williams was an intimidating presence in the middle of the Tide's defensive line the past few seasons. The Raiders have needs everywhere on the defensive side of the ball and Williams is a player that Jon Gruden would love.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Rashan Gary, Defensive End, Michigan: The Bucs have a lot of holes to fill on their roster, but they need more help on the defensive end. Gary would slide right along with Jason Pierre-Paul and Gerald McCoy on that defensive front for new coach Bruce Arians.

6. New York Giants- Dwayne Haskins, Quarterback, Ohio State: Eli Manning's days of being a good starting quarterback in the league are over. Haskins handing the ball off to Saquon Barkley and throwing it to Odell Beckham Jr would only jumpstart his career and it would be to watch.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars- Brian Burns, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida State: The Jaguars do need a quarterback, but lets assume they sign Joe Flacco or a veteran like many are suggesting. Burns is someone that can slide in as Yannick Ngakoue enters a contract year and he could walk after the 2019 season.

8. Detroit Lions- Greedy Williams, Cornerback, LSU: The Lions have a lot of needs after yet another disappointing season. Williams would slide in to go with Darius Slay and Quandre Diggs to form a nice secondary for Matt Patricia.

9. Buffalo Bills- Greg Little, Offensive Tackle, Ole Miss: The Bills have a lot of holes to fill and arguably their biggest need is offensive line help although they can use a wideout here. Little can certainly help protect Josh Allen.

10. Denver Broncos- Byron Murphy, Cornerback, Washington: Yes, the Broncos need a quarterback for the future, but they also have a need in the secondary as two of their starters will be free agents. Murphy was the best defensive back on the Huskies this past season and he would have an impact in the league.

11. Cincinnati Bengals- Devin White, Linebacker, LSU: White was the best linebacker in the country this past season and he would be a fine selection by a Bengals team that has a need here. He is great off the ball and would make life easier for their secondary.

12. Green Bay Packers- Deionte Thompson, Safety, Alabama: If the Packers want to get back into contention, they must fix their secondary, especially after trading away Ha-Ha Clinton Dix. Thompson is the best safety in the draft and he'd be a great pick here by the Pack.

13. Miami Dolphins- Drew Lock, Quarterback, Missouri: The Dolphins have to know that Ryan Tannehill just is not a franchise quarterback and that it's time to move on. Lock had a strong showing in the second half of the college season and has a very good arm.

14. Atlanta Falcons- Ed Oliver, Defensive Tackle, Houston: Oliver was once projected a top-five pick and his stock has dropped dramatically. The Falcons could wind up with a major steal here potentially if Oliver lives up to his potential.

15. Washington Redskins- DK Metclaf, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: The Redskins are another team you can argue needs a quarterback regardless of what happens with Alex Smith and how he recovers. They also need a wideout and Metclaf is perhaps the best one in the draft class.

19. Tennessee Titans- Dre'Mont Jones, Defensive Tackle, Ohio State: The Titans have a solid pass rush, but some help on the interior would be nice. Jones is one of the better interior lineman in the draft and was overshadowed on the Buckeyes by Nick Bosa while Bosa was playing.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers- Amani Oruwariye, Cornerback, Penn State: Depending on what happens with Antonio Brown, the Steelers may need a wideout. Meanwhile, right now their bigger need lies in their secondary where Joe Haden is aging and Oruwariye would bring physicality and new blood.

21. Seattle Seahawks- Christian Wilkins, Defensive Tackle, Clemson: Snagging a talented interior lineman like Wilkins here would be a monster steal for the Seahawks. He will bring physicality and would start for Pete Carroll immediately.

22. Baltimore Ravens- Riley Ridley, Wide Receiver, Georgia: Lamar Jackson was a big part of the Ravens division title win, but he clearly needs more help around him. An argument could be made a lineman would be a better pick here, but he needs above average talent to throw to and Ridley could help.

24. Oakland Raiders (from Chicago Bears)- Montez Sweat, Defensive End, Mississippi State: The Raiders need a pass rush as they still need to replace Khalil Mack. Sweat should help fix it as Jon Gruden and Mike Maycock address the teams biggest need.

25. Philadelphia Eagles- Jacahi Polite, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Florida: The Eagles have two of their pass rushers entering the free agent market so Polite would be a logical fit here. This could be a potential steal too if he lives upto hype.

26. Oakland Raiders (from Dallas Cowboys)- K'Neal Harry, Wide Receiver, Arizona State: Harry is someone who could wind up a steal from this spot. This would be a nice weapon for Derek Carr since a few of his receivers are getting up there in age.

27. Indianapolis Colts- AJ Brown, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss: The Colts suddenly look like a team that has a look of a contender. A defensive player is the wiser choice but Andrew Luck needs another reliable wideout other than TY Hilton and Brown could be that.

28. Los Angeles Chargers- Jeffery Simmons, Defensive Tackle, Mississippi State: Upgrading either line with this pick would be a wise move by the Chargers. A talent like Simmons on the same defensive line as Joey Bosa would be frightening.

29. New England Patriots- Jawaan Taylor, Offensive Tackle, Florida: Tom Brady is obviously not young anymore and that's your argument for a quarterback here. Instead, they improve the offensive line by drafting Taylor, who has shown physicality and power.

30. Los Angeles Rams- Clelin Ferrell, Defensive End, Clemson: The Rams biggest need this offseason is a pass rusher and someone that could conceivably go in the top ten dropping to them would make Ferrell the steal of the draft. Aaron Donald manning the interior and Ferrell on the outside is a scary proposition.

32. Green Bay Packers (from New Orleans Saints)- Marquise Brown, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma: The Packers need a downfield receiver to go with DeVonte Adams and Brown would be a wise choice. He'll help Aaron Rodgers although he size may hurt his draft stock.

2018-19 College Football Playoff: National Championship Prediction

Here is my pick for the 2018-19 College Football Playoff National Championship game.

(1) Alabama Crimson Tide vs (2) Clemson Tigers- 8:15, ESPN: Here we go! Fourth straight season these teams meet in post-season play and the third time in four years this meet in the National Championship game. The Tide are coming off a comfortable win in the Semi-final against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Tigers are coming off a dominant win in the Semi-final over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in which star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence served a one-game drug suspension for. Lawrence will be back for the Tigers as they'll try to slow down a much better offense in the Tide's led by Heisman runner up Tua Tagovailoa. As seen in the Orange Bowl, Kyler Murray was able to have success against a not so great Tide secondary and I think Trevor Lawrence can do the same with his weapons on offense. That said, I'm not sold on the Tigers secondary either and Tagovailoa is always great at getting guys open too. That said, I think Alabama wins a close one and repeats as champs in Santa Clara courtesy of Tagovailoa and the fact I think Nick Saban's defense can get a few more stops in what I think will be a shoutout. Roll Tide.

Prediction: Alabama 34, Clemson 30.

Offensive MVP: Tagovailoa

Defensive MVP: Quinnen Williams, Defensive Tackle

2018-19 NFL Playoffs: Wild Card Round Picks

Here are my picks for the Wild Card Round of the 2018-19 NFL Playoffs.

Saturday, January 5th
(A6) Indianapolis Colts (10-6) vs (A3) Houston Texans (11-5)- 4:30, ESPN/ABC: These two teams played each other twice this season in two close games with each team winning once. The Colts are coming off a big divisional road win in Nashville against the Titans to win the AFC's final wild card spot. The Texans are coming off a divisional home win over the Jacksonville Jaguars to clinch the AFC South. The keys to this game is whether DeShaun Watson gets time to throw considering the Texans offensive line is the worst among the playoff teams and whether the Texans pass rush can get to Andrew Luck, who's offensive line is much improved now with the drafting of Quenton Nelson to go with Ryan Kelly and Anthony Costanzo. The Texans are missing trade acquisition DeMaryus Thomas due to a torn achilles so DeAndre Hopkins is the Texans only offensive weapon unless Watson uses his mobility. The secondary is the other weakness of this team that hasn't got that much attention and Andrew Luck has torched that secondary throughout his career and that will be the case again as T.Y. Hilton and Eric Ebron will have big games as the Colts will win their first playoff game in four seasons.
Prediction: Indianapolis 30, Houston 26.

(N5) Seattle Seahawks (10-6) vs (N4) Dallas Cowboys (10-6)- 8:15, FOX: These two teams met earlier in the season and the Seahawks won this game convincingly and that was before the Cowboys acquired Amari Cooper, which changed the outlook of their season. The Seahawks are coming off a divisional home win over the Arizona Cardinals on a game winning field goal by Sebastian Janikowski to ensure themselves the five-seed. The Cowboys are coming off a divisional road win in East Rutherford against the Giants in a meaningless game that Ezekiel Elliott did not play in. The key to this game is Russell Wilson against the improved and young Cowboys defense and the 'Boys defense slowed down Drew Brees in a primetime game a few weeks ago meanwhile the Seahawks offense and Wilson have not had much success against elite defenses this season. The Seahawks defense is somewhat vulnerable without Earl Thomas in that secondary after he was lost for the season although Bobby Wagner has been sensational this season. This was the hardest pick of Wild Card weekend, but I trust Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson more in a playoff game than Jason Garrett (who may be axed if he loses) and Dak Prescott, despite the Cowboys being home.
Prediction: Seattle 27, Dallas 23.

Sunday, January 6th
(A5) Los Angeles Chargers (12-4) vs (A4) Baltimore Ravens (10-6)- 1:00, CBS: These two teams met a few weeks ago in a Saturday night game in Los Angeles in which the Ravens got the big win on the road. The Chargers are coming off a divisional road win in Denver against the Broncos. The Ravens are coming off a big divisional home win over the Cleveland Browns to win the AFC North title. The Ravens are 6-1 since Lamar Jackson took over as the starter and perhaps saved John Harbaugh's job and he is definitely the key to this game against a solid Chargers pass rush and secondary. The Ravens pass rush is very good but their secondary is not and that's where I see Phillip Rivers and the Chargers offense having success. In a back and forth contest that will be fun to watch, I like the Chargers to get the win on the road.
Prediction: LA Chargers 24, Baltimore 20.

(N6) Philadelphia Eagles (9-7) vs (N3) Chicago Bears (12-4)- 4:40, NBC: These two teams did not meet this season, but met last year and the Eagles won convincingly, but that was when Carson Wentz was healthy and the Bears didn't have Khalil Mack or their current wide receivers on their roster. The Eagles are coming off a shutout road win in Landover against the Redskins in which Nick Foles suffered a rib injury. The Bears are coming off an impressive road win in Minneapolis against the Vikings in which they eliminated their division rivals out of playoff contention. This is Mitch Trubisky's first playoff game and how he does will be the key for their playoff success and Kyle Long does appear to be healthy, which is big for their offensive line. The Eagles offense is strangely better with Nick Foles and always tends to thrive when they are doubted, but the Bears defense is by far the best unit on the field led by Mack in the pass rush and the secondary is getting back Eddie Jackson, which offsets the loss of Bryce Callahan due to a foot injury. Soldier Field will be fired up as the Bears get their first playoff win in a whopping eight years.
Prediction: Chicago 27, Philadelphia 17.
