2017 College Football Week 3: Picks

Here are my picks for weeks 3 of the 2017 College Football season.

Thursday, September 14th
New Mexico (1-1; 0-0) at Boise State (1-1; 0-0); 8:00, ESPN: This is an intriguing game to kick off MWC play for these two squads. The Lobos have played the Broncos tough the past few seasons and did pull off an upset the last time they played on the blue turf. The Broncos had a brutal collapse last week in Pullman, but I think they're poised for a bounce back here at home.
Pick: Boise State

Friday, September 15th
Illinois (2-0; 0-0) at (22) South Florida (2-0; 0-0)- 7:00, ESPN: The Illini are a somwhat surprising 2-0 and the Bulls are 2-0 as well, but haven't looked all that great and have not lived up to their ranking. Something tells me this will be the Bulls breakthrough win that everyone is looking for.
Pick: South Florida

Massachusetts (0-3) at Temple (1-1; 0-0)- 7:00, ESPNU
Pick: Temple

Arizona (1-1; 0-0) at UTEP (0-2; 0-1)- 10:15, ESPN

Pick: Michigan

(9) Oklahoma State (2-0; 0-0) at Pittsburgh (1-1; 0-0)- 12:00, ESPN: This game is very interesting. Wouldn't rule out a single digit game here with Mason Rudolph leading the way for the Cowboys.
Pick: Oklahoma State

(25) UCLA (2-0; 0-0) at Memphis (1-0; 0-0)- 12:00, ABC: This game is very intriguing from a standpoint of if the Tigers win, they will be the talk of the Group Of 5 teams. This game will be close, but the Tigers defense won't stop Josh Rosen and the Bruins offense.
Pick: UCLA

Northern Illinois (1-1; 0-0) at Nebraska (1-1; 0-0)- 12:00, FS1
Pick: Nebraska

Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1; 0-0) at Texas A&M (1-1; 0-0)- 12:00, SECN

Pick: Ball State

(10) Wisconsin (2-0; 0-0) at BYU (1-2)- 3:30, ABC: The Cougars have been so bad offensively so far and combine that with a good Badger defense, that screams Badgers win big on the road.
Pick: Wisconsin

(16) Virginia Tech (2-0; 0-0) at East Carolina (0-2; 0-0)- 3:30, CBSSN
Pick: Virginia Tech

SMU (2-0; 0-0) at (20) TCU (2-0; 0-0)- 3:30, ESPNU: This game will be closer than the experts think, but the Horned Frogs will pull this one out.
Pick: TCU

(23) Tennessee (2-0; 0-0) at (24) Florida (0-1; 0-0)- 3:30, CBS: This is a huge game that could determine the SEC East champion. Give me the Gators, who are coming off the rough loss against Michigan followed by a week off, to pull it out at home.

Pick: North Carolina

Notre Dame (1-1) at Boston College (1-1; 0-1)- 3:30, ESPN: Expect a big bounce back effort here from the Irish, although Sparty looms next week so this may be a trap.
Pick: Notre Dame

Morgan State (0-2; 0-0) at Rutgers (0-2; 0-0)- 3:30, BTN
Pick: Rutgers

Pick: Auburn

Purdue (1-1; 0-0) at Missouri (1-1; 0-1)- 4:00, SECN: The winner of this game could very well end up playing in a bowl.

Pick: FAU

Kent State (1-1; 0-0) at Marshall (1-1; 0-0)- 6:30
Pick: Marshall

Colorado State (2-1; 0-0) at (1) Alabama (2-0; 0-0)- 7:00, ESPN2
Pick: Alabama

(12) LSU (2-0; 0-0) at Mississippi State (2-0; 0-0)- 7:00, ESPN: This is a monster game for both teams. The winner of this game could very well prove to be the biggest threat to the Tide in the division (although Auburn might have something to say about that). Give me Nick Fitzgerald and the Bulldogs to pull off the upset at home.
Pick: Mississippi State

Southern (1-1; 0-0) at UTSA (1-0; 0-0)- 7:00
Pick: UTSA

Louisiana Tech (1-1; 0-0) at WKU (1-1; 0-0)- 7:00, CUSA.tv: This is a battle of the top two teams of C-USA. You can make a case for any team here, but I like the Hilltopers here at home.
Pick: WKU

Southern Miss (1-1; 0-0) at Louisiana-Monroe (0-1; 0-0)- 7:00, ESPN3
Pick: Southern Miss

Idaho State (1-1; 0-0) at Nevada (0-2; 0-0)- 7:00

Pick: South Alabama

Oregon (2-0; 0-0) at Wyoming (1-1; 0-0)- 7:00, CBSSN: Josh Allen will keep the Cowboys hanging around, but they won't be able to stop the Ducks offense.
Pick: Oregon

Georgia State at (4) Penn State; 7:30, BTN
Pick: Penn State

Samford (2-0; 0-0) at (13) Georgia (2-0; 0-0)- 7:30, SECN
Pick: Georgia

(18) Kansas State (2-0; 0-0) at Vanderbilt (2-0; 0-0)- 7:30, ESPNU: This is a sneaky good game here. The Commodores will hang around here, but the Wildcats will pull away late.
Pick: Kansas State

Bowling Green (0-2; 0-0) at Northwestern (1-1; 0-0)- 7:30, BTN
Pick: Northwestern

Kentucky (2-0; 0-0) at South Carolina (2-0; 1-0)- 7:30, SECN: This is a sneaky good game here. The winner of this game will probably head to a bowl game and give me the Gamecocks at home.
Pick: South Carolina

(3) Clemson (2-0; 0-0) at (14) Louisville (2-0; 1-0)- 8:00, ABC: This is the best game of the weekend and ESPN's College GameDay will be on hand for it as well. This could not only determine the ACC Atlantic and conference winner, but a College Football berth spot too. Give me Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals to win this and get revenge from a season ago.
Pick: Louisville

Cincinnati (1-1; 0-0) at Miami-Ohio (1-1; 0-0)- 8:00
Pick: Miami-Ohio

Rice (1-1; 1-0) at Houston (1-0; 0-0)- 8:00, ESPN3

Pick: Texas Tech

Texas (1-1; 0-0) at (4) USC (2-0; 1-0)- 8:30, FOX: This game would have been more enticing had the Longhorns not lost week one. That said, I think the Longhorns keep it closer than the experts think, but Sam Darnold and the Trojans pull it out.
Pick: USC

Fresno State (1-1; 0-0) at (6) Washington (2-0; 0-0)- 9:30, Pac-12N
Pick: Washington

San Jose State (1-2; 0-0) at Utah (2-0; 0-0)- 10:00, ESPN2
Pick: Utah

(19) Stanford (1-1; 0-1) at San Diego State (2-0; 0-0)- 10:30, CBSSN: This game will be closer than the experts think, but Bryce Love and the Cardinal will pull away late.
Pick: Stanford

Ole Miss (2-0; 0-0) at California (2-0; 0-0)- 10:30, ESPN: Here we have Pac-12 after dark featuring an SEC team in the Rebels. Things get crazy in Berkeley at night and I'm gonna a call a long, high scoring affair with the Bears coming out on top.
Pick: California
