2016 MLB Awards

Here are my award selections for the 2016 MLB Season

American League
MVP: Mookie Betts, Boston Red Sox: This season was a coming out party for the Betts not only offensively but defensively in the outfield, where he's saved many runs. He is a big reason why the Red Sox won the American League East and seem like the team to beat in the Junior Circuit.
Runner up: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox

Cy Young: Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers: This season was pretty much a rebirth for Verlander, who was disappointing the last two seasons before this one. He helped keep the Tigers in the Wild Card race for the entire season, the second half in particular.
Runner up: Corey Kluber, Cleveland Indians

Rookie Of The Year: Michael Fulmer, Detroit Tigers: Fulmer has been outstanding for most of the season (despite sputtering toward the end) and also is why Detroit hung around in the race the whole season. He was a few innings short of qualifying for the ERA title as well.
Runner up: Gary Sanchez, New York Yankees

Manager Of The Year: Buck Showalter, Baltimore Orioles: Most pundits picked the Orioles to finish in last in the ultra-competitive AL East. Here they are in the Wild Card game and Showalter deserves credit for getting a lot out of his team, especially his pitching staff.
Runner up: Terry Francona, Cleveland Indians

National League
MVP: Kris Bryant, Chicago Cubs: My preseason selection for this award is likely to be correct. Bryant was outstanding this season for the leagues best team and he's only going to get better going forward.
Runner up: Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs

Cy Young: Jose Fernandez, Miami Marlins: This is obviously my pick to honor him, but it is also my pick because Fernandez was just lights out yet again what tragically turned out to be his final season. It also was his first whole season since coming off Tommy John Surgery. Rest In Peace.
Runner up: Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers

Rookie Of The Year: Corey Seager, Los Angeles Dodgers: This was a no-brainer. Seager was the obvious choice here because he was the Dodgers best player most of the season and is a big reason why they won the National League West.
Runner up: Trevor Story, Colorado Rockies

Manager Of The Year: Dave Roberts, Los Angeles Dodgers: Roberts deserves a ton of credit in his first season as Dodgers manager considering a lot of drama that he had to deal with. Clayton Kershaw was injured for a few months over the summer and than the team took off and won the division.
Runner up: Terry Collins, New York Mets
