2014 NFL Week 5 Picks

Here are my picks for week five of the 2014 NFL Season.

Thursday, October 2nd
(2-2) Minnesota Vikings vs (2-2) Green Bay Packers: A nice NFC North matchup for us between a Minnesota team that is coming off a nice win over Atlanta and a Green Bay team that's coming off an impressive win in Chicago. I'm going with the team that looks to be back to themselves, and that happens to be Green Bay. Prediction: Green Bay 38, Minnesota 27.

Sunday, October 5th
(2-2) Chicago Bears vs (2-2) Carolina Panthers: Chicago is coming off a disappointing loss to Green Bay and Carolina is coming off a bad loss in Baltimore. This should be an interesting game and it should tell us a lot about both teams. Expect Chicago to continue their road success. Prediction: Chicago 27, Carolina 21.

(1-2) Cleveland Browns vs (1-3) Tennessee Titans: Cleveland is coming off a bye and Tennessee is coming off a loss in Indianapolis. It's pretty clear now that Tennessee's week one win is a fluke and they have lost three straight since. Cleveland clearly made the correct choice by choosing quarterback Brian Hoyer over rookie Johnny Manziel. Expect Hoyer to continue his success against a bad Tennessee team. Prediction: Cleveland 30, Tennessee 20.

(1-2) St. Louis Rams vs (3-1) Philadelphia Eagles: St. Louis is coming off their bye while Philadelphia is coming off a loss in San Francisco, in which their offense didn't even score in the game. Expect Philadelphia's offense to bounce back in a big way en route to a big win. Prediction: Philadelphia 36, St. Louis 16.

(2-2) Atlanta Falcons vs (2-2) New York Giants: Atlanta is coming off a disappointing loss in Minnesota and the Giants are coming off a resounding win in Washington. Atlanta is dealing with injuries to their offensive line, and expect the Giants to take advantage of that and get over the .500 mark for the first time since 2012. Prediction: NY Giants 33, Atlanta 28.

(1-3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs (1-3) New Orleans Saints: Tampa Bay is coming off their first win of the season in Pittsburgh and New Orleans is coming off a disappointing loss in Dallas. Talk about must wins, this is indeed one for New Orleans and they'll play desperate behind a great home field advantage. Prediction: New Orleans 31, Tampa Bay 17.

(3-1) Houston Texans vs (3-1) Dallas Cowboys: Houston is coming off a home win against a struggling Buffalo team and Dallas is coming off a big home win against New Orleans. The battle of Texas is always fun and expect it to be a great game yet again. Dallas's offensive power might be for Houston's defense to handle. Prediction: Dallas 28, Houston 23.

(2-2) Buffalo Bills vs (3-1) Detroit Lions: Buffalo is coming off a loss in Houston, in which led them to make a quarterback change from EJ Manuel to Kyle Orton. Detroit is coming off a nice road in New Jersey against the Jets. I really don't feel good about saying this but, since Buffalo is dealing with the quarterback situation, Detroit is my lock of the week. Prediction: Detroit 33, Buffalo 20.

(3-1) Baltimore Ravens vs (2-2) Indianapolis Colts: This is the best game of the early-afternoon games, and it might not be close. Baltimore is coming off an impressive win against Carolina and Indianapolis is coming off a home in against a bad Tennessee team. Indianapolis has not had a win against a team over .500 yet this season, but expect that to change. Prediction: Indianapolis 37, Baltimore 31.

(2-2) Pittsburgh Steelers vs (0-4) Jacksonville Jaguars: Pittsburgh is coming off a disappointing home loss to Tampa Bay and Jacksonville is coming off a loss in San Diego. Pittsburgh is a team I don't know what to make of yet, but expect them to beat a bad Jacksonville team up. Prediction: Pittsburgh 26, Jacksonville 17.

(3-0) Arizona Cardinals vs (2-1) Denver Broncos: This is probably the most intriguing game of week five. Both teams happen to be coming off their byes this week, ironically. Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer is out again with a shoulder injury, which against this Denver team, will derail them. Prediction: Denver 30, Arizona 21.

(2-2) Kansas City Chiefs vs (2-2) San Francisco 49ers: The most intriguing storyline of week five is Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith returning to San Francisco to face his former team. Kansas City is coming off an impressive win against New England and San Francisco is coming off a come from behind win against Philadelphia. Expect San Francisco to win a close game. Prediction: San Francisco 28, Kansas City 24.

(1-3) New York Jets vs (3-1) San Diego Chargers: The Jets are coming off a disappointing loss against Detroit and San Diego is coming off a win against Jacksonville. San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers is the front runner for MVP through four weeks while Jets quarterback Geno Smith has regressed badly the last few weeks. Expect San Diego to keep on winning. Prediction: San Diego 34, NY Jets 21.

(3-0) Cincinnati Bengals vs (2-2) New England Patriots: Cincinnati is coming off their bye week while New England is coming off a disastrous loss in Kansas City. After New England's loss, the talk was that their done, Brady's in decline, etc. This pick may surprise some folks, but I think New England squeaks out this win and give Cincinnati their first loss. Prediction: New England 23, Cincinnati 21.

(2-1) Seattle Seahawks vs (1-3) Washington Redskins: Seattle is coming off their bye week while Washington is coming off a disastrous home loss against the Giants. It seems clear that Washington quarterback Kirk Cousin's great performance in Philadelphia two weeks ago was a fluke, but Seattle isn't a great road team and that's why I think this game will be closer than people think. Prediction: Seattle 26, Washington 21.
